Picked this up in Wisconsin over the weekend. I plan to ride it / ice race it a little and then give it a full rebuild in February or March. I think I'm going to go with a blue scheme, since my '89 is red/white, but we will see what happens.

For starters, I want some +3 Walsh Flattie arms for it. It has +4's on it now, and they are the older style Walsh. I plan on making this my fast trail/general use quad, so it would be nice to make it a little narrower- around 47" with 4-1 wheels. Also, I really want a QT Naca Duct hood for Fullbores. If anyone has these parts or knows someone who does let me know and we can work out a deal. Thanks, Marc.

I'll post more pics later. It is in really good shape, but just looks dumb with all the stickers plastered randomly on it...

Oh, and by the way, I sold my 450r to get it.... now 100% 2-stroke and it feels great!

Nice Walsh, I can't wait for the build to start next spring, let me know when you are thinking of going ice riding.

Yeah, I'll get some more tonight when I get home. Looking for close-ups of anything in particular? The front upper shock mount area is pretty unique on Walsh frames.

Very cool bike, nice find... I agree it does look like it was attacked by the Sticker bandit!!

How does the narrow Walsh compare to the Narrow Laeger?

Looking to see what you are using for a top motor mount.

Troy- Not really sure about the differences, since I don't have a Laeger, but I'll look at some pictures of yours and see if I can tell. I think the rear is real similar, and the front of the Walsh uses adjustable shock towers with about 2 inches of adjustment, so you have a variety of shock/arm options and ride height adjustment.

Norcalduner- Do you mean the headstay mount or the upper rear engine mount. There is a unique headstay on there, and there is nothing on the upper rear motor mount. I think they figure it is OK to leave one motor mount unused, since Honda didnt use the lower rear mount on the 88-89 models. I'll get pics of both areas though.

Yes, I meant the headstay. Thanks in advance for the pics.

Do you know what the length is on the lower a arm? I bought a set of the older style walsh arms and I'm not sure what the length is. The guy I bought them from said they +4 but I'm not sure

I'm currently rebuilding my Walsh right now. The headstay uses mounts unique to the Walsh frame. They somewhat resemble the front motor mounts in regard to their general shape. I just bought new front motor mounts and new headstay mounts from Walsh. They are aluminum. The top headstay mounts (there's two of them) sandwich those two bolt holes in the frame and come down to attach to the head. Pretty neat setup. The motor mounts aren't cheap, tho.

I sent my 2001 Walsh frame directly to Walsh to have them go over everything to make sure it is 100% perfect and straight. Should be a sweet build.

What would you like to see?? I'm sitting here by my computer and camera and the Walsh is right in the garage... I'm bored. I want to work on it now, but if i start now, I'll have nothing to ride all winter....because I can't get myself to ride my '89 anywhere but sand....needs to stay cleeeeean!

How about some of the swingarm/linkage, subframe, lower engine mounts, and the a-arms.

Its always nice to see how different frames/parts are built.

Thanks for your time!

Axle- It's an old RPM, the contour of it looks like a lonestar, but it is made of a much better material. I want to clean it up and get it re-chromed, because it is not something you see everyday.

Thank you so much for the pics!!!

Its great to see the quality of work that went into this setup... Almost all the parts on this chassis are like none other! Everything looks to be very strong and well thought out.

I would love to own this bike, great score!

Thanks for the pics. These will make good reference pics for future Walsh owners. What are your plans for it besides the a-arms ? Restoration, full rebuild, repowder frame, big bore cylinder, etc. ? This quad looks like its got a lot of history.

SilverLake250R
11-08-2010, 09:44 PM
Actually, from what I was told, a guy built it in 2000, raced it for a couple years, sent the frame back to Walsh for a check-up and to update some gussets, and then it was not used much after that because he built a Walsh CRF. It has been sitting now for 7-8 yrs.

I plan on giving it a really high quality rebuild. All new powder, some more chrome, and all new accessories for it. I want it to really stand out. I think I'm going to go with a lot of billet/anodized parts, and minimize the polishing on this one, because I want it to be an all- around quad, mostly for fast trail riding and duning, so it will get muddy and dirty. I think the color scheme is going to be based off a candy blue frame, with white plastics and a lot of carbon accessories. I think it will look similar to my '89, but blue instead of red. I want to design the graphics myself, keeping it clean but not too plain.

As for a motor, I want it to be fast, but still be able to go on long rides without re-fueling. I have several buddies with 4 strokes and they can go close to 75 miles on a tank. I will probably need an oversize tank, even though I think they look like **** most of the time. I think a mild ESR 310 PV will work out good, with a midrange pipe and a rad valve. Plus you can't beat the price these days. The bottom end is an '89 built by Sparks...it was a whole sparks big bore motor but the cylinder was replaced at some point.

If I go with the ESR motor, I want to get all the billet blue accessories they have...shifter, kicker, brake...etc... Also, since this is my all-around quad it would be nice to have some lights, so I am thinking of making some custom ones... I have some ideas...;)

Nice very nice! I like projects like this, they come complete! This is what I should have bought. Then you can replace what you want you don't have to buy everything and do the complete build from scratch. Which is what I ended up doing. The good thing is you get exactly what you want on the build!!! Hey, if you're looking for carbon fiber parts. I've been having Jay at fourwerkx build me some custom carbon fiber parts with a blue tint to them and they look awesome. I'm waiting for radiator shrouds right now. I'm gonna have some shock guards made for my PEP's as well. So I'm sure that you could get in on it if you were interested.

SilverLake250R
11-08-2010, 10:04 PM
Yeah Keith, I think I will give him a call. All the stuff I really want is custom though....I'd be willing to pay out my *** for it....I want a naca duct hood that fits fullbores, a tank cover for a 4.0 IMS tank, and shrouds for a Walsh radiator... QT used to make some of this, but I'd go with FW if he could do it in a blue weave. That would look amazing.

Higgy87TRX425
11-08-2010, 10:42 PM
Yeah, he can, he's had some of the molds made for a while. He doesn't mind making special one off parts I guess. He's making me some rad shrouds right now. I gotta send him my pep shock collors so he can make me the shock guards as well. You should definatly look him up!

Once you ride it, you will not want to tear it down!

Looks good Marc! I should be able to stop by tommorow night and check it out if your still going to be around. When you tear it down this winter I'll try tear my Laeger down at the same time and maybe we can take the Walsh, Laeger, and my Lonestar frame and set them all side by side. It would be fun to take some pictures and interesting to see the geometry and design differences between the frames. No, I'm not planning on tearing down my Lobo this winter but it would be fun to compare all four chassis' side by side so maybe you should buy one of those too! :D talk to ya tomorrow!

Sounds good Doug. Give me a call before you head over just in case, but I'll plan on it. I put a CFM airbox on it and a nicer front bumper as well as a few other things I had laying around, and I took all the stickers off and cleaned a few other things up. I'll post some pictures tomorrow, but it actually looks pretty sharp now.

Here's my updates so far. I also bought a Walsh radiator today, so that will go on as soon as I get it. Not showroom clean, but it will work until the full rebuild.
