That's a great question, and I'm curious myself but I can't answer your question. Sorry

it can be preload set since they are adjustable fronts, the rears are rebound and compression also on the 400. the 450s have comp and rebound fronts too with the piggies. i would say that they use an ave rider of between 170-200 lbs on the machines as a rough estimate to measure the suspensions. they can then be adjusted up or down a slight bit from there. steve

what shocks are you putting on what? the 450 shocks will be stiffer on the 400 since the valving is different. it all depends on how you want it to ride and what the purposes are. steve

It has stock shocks now. I bought it for my son. This is his fifth and final machine. He is a little over 100 lbs. We ride trail in Pa. There is a little of every thing out there along with alot of rock so I looking to set it up to take some of the abuse he will get from the factory set up. Thought about going to the 450 and re springing them any suggestions would be helpful. Any suggestions for the rear?

Im still a bit lost but i am assuming this is on a 400. i would either just keep the 400 shocks and soften them up all the way or get some 400 shocks and put on the 450 for a while till he gets to be a bit bigger if it is a 450 we are talking about. The 400 shocks will be really soft on the 450 because of the extra leverage and would be ok for trail riding on it till he is probably 150 pounds. steve

also just turn down the valving on the rear shock. I would go half a turn soft on both of them and give it a shot. both of these suggestions are for strictly trail riding though. lol steve

my vote goes to keeping the stockers for a while and just taking all of the preload off of them. they reallly arent that bad till you start jumpiing with it. pick up a spanner wrench, that makes it pretty easy to adjust. if he wants it a bit stiffer for a track crank them up. steve
