So as some of you know I flipped my EX on the last ride and I thought my pro-tapers were bent but I actually think my steering stem may have bent....It looks bent back and when you turn the bars it squeels a lot more and just looks funny....Does this look normal to you guys?

This is what it looks like turned all the way to the left....

Next issue is I bought these AC nerf's used a while back but my stock heal guards don't fit at all and I think I have 450R pegs but I'm not sure? Can you guys tell? Do you know what heal guard will fit?

The bolts are exactly 3" apart if that helps

That is my stock 400EX peg on top

Stock peg on the left

And the next issue is this broke when I flipped so my question is do I buy a new headlight or a new hood with a scoop (do they make these?) I don't really ever ride at night....

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4054/5154461569_71e016ccd7_z.jpg

And another thing, I'd like a thicker/bigger seat does anyone make these for the 400EX?

First off- are you ok!

I would say the stem is def bent up good!

I cant help on the pegs since i am not exactly sure what the 450 ones look like.

you can either get a new headlight assembly or as you want to do get a scoop. quad tech makes some along with meier. usually most of the ones that are used are from 250r and 450r setups and just modded to fit.

I am not really sure on the seats but believe you can call a couple of companies to get custom seats made. I think quad tech does those also but am not 100% sure on it. There may be another also but i dont hear of them often so i cant really help there either.

Really i just wanted to comment on the carnage from the flip! It looks like you did a good bit of damage to the hundy :( poor girl...

yes you can get a hood to bolt over the headlight hole. look for a 250r or a 450r hood. (depends on what style you like-but they fit differently) you will have to move you key and neutral lite. or get a used lite off a member on here.

yes you have 450r pegs. and yes the heal guard won't fit right with those nerfs and pegs. but you can work them around to work. first all you need to drill a hole in the bottom of the peg to insert that little wire(thats bolted to back of guard) . put that in and bend around the wire a bit to mak it fit. you also may need to trim back the plastic a bit.

i believe it was ceet that used to make a thicker seat what was used for baja racing back in the day, but i am not sure about who makes them these day, or have a custom one made up, you'll have to google.

Ok I've trimmed the heel guards plastic a while ago but I'll try drilling that hole in the bottom.

And so you think the steering steam really is bent?

And yes I'm fine haha.

yeah it's bent. mine is very slightly bent...welcome to the club haha.

if you stand back away from the quad. line up the front wheels and the bars so it's as straight as you can get it.

stand back and look, u should be able to see the bend this way, it's the easiest way to nice what side it leans towards. Mine doesn't squek but if i turn it all the way to the left, there is a small scratch on the plastic where the top of the stem rubbed when it rolled.

Yep, steering stems bent. Mine isnt as bad but I can tell too.

You can fix the headlight, get creative with some epoxy and whatever you can think of. I had to do something similar when the bolt holes in the bottom of mine broke.

i have the exact set up on my 400, stock heal guards, ac nerf, 450 pegs (and 400ex pegs bolted to the 450r pegs for a wider peg) it took some work but i got it all working together. i can take a pic if need be.....

Awesome thanks for the pics!

So to get the new hood I have to cut my stock plastics? There is no scoop that just fits into the hole where the headlights go?

beags86
11-08-2010, 08:43 AM
you will have to cut off the top of the headlight (where the key is)
there are no hoods that fit in the hole that i know of. some people just put a "plug" in the headlight holes, can look kind of cool if done right.

And then I just order a 250 or 450R hood? I might just fix my headlights but I need a stem before anything.

Google Hi Flite for a thicker seat. My quad had one on it when I picked it up a few years ago. It is bulky looking but oh so comfy. Hope this helps!

How did you like that? Did you feel too tall on the quad? What about sliding around?

erik420
11-08-2010, 11:30 AM
I do mostly trail riding and i don't slide around. Yes you do sit tall on it but its not that bad. Adjust your bars to the seat. I have tag bars on it now but not sure which model. My behind really likes it. Lol.

yeah it works well for me, i wanted pro peg nerfs, but i couldn't justify the price. so i looked into pro pegs and once again i thought that it wasn't worth it. and used ones on the forum always got snatched up before i could get there.

so when i found out that the 450r pegs were wider and a popular upgrade i got a set.

was going to sell the 400ex pegs... but i what are they worth 5-10 bucks? not even worth the time.

was also going to weld them to the 450r pegs but i thought if i ever were to sell it maybe the new owner wouldn't like the wider pegs so i bolted them.....

lastly the pic is of my 05... my 02(my main ride) doesn't have heal guards

erik-

did you put them black number back grounds on? or did you buy the quad like that?

i like the contrast of the black on the red fenders.. and the fact that it curves with the body line

erik420

Actually my bike was used as a template for the number plates. You can see my quad on the ebay listing. Search 400ex number plates. The seller is sirgto or something like that, I can't remember exactly what his name is. Ask him for the front piece also. He has not listed that one yet. Look at the attached pic. I put them on at the begining of the summer and they are holding up good.

Oh yea Beags. I like your peg and heal guard set up. I have an extra set of peg and a set of stock heal guards so I think I'm going to do the same thing. I was going to buy an aftermarket set of heal guards but I think I'm going to spend that money on something else for the quad!

thats the way i felt about it. i don't have a ton of stuff done to my quads just useful mods that i have done over time. nothing crazy. just things that make it easier/better/more comfortable to ride and drive. why spend a ton of money on one part? just to have the best?? for what? to say you have the best.. who cares.

spend money where you need it and don't be afraid to spread it around where you feel you money will work the best for you!

Same thing here, money is tight. I don't need to have what everyone has or the best. I'm not a pro. I'm just some guy who trail rides. I only want to improve the bike but not spend crazy money like some of the guys I ride with do. Its all about getting out there and the ride!!!

Erik.
