first thing to help start in the cold is to make sure that you turn your fuel off when done riding and let the gas burn out of the carb! in other words start with "fresh' gas in carb, then when your going to ride turn fuel on and pump throttle a couple of times put choke on and DONT touch throttle while trying to start

yes it could be valves but definatly try your jetting first if your plug looks like its out, how does it run? any signs of jetting being off

its seems to run fine when its warm outside it starts right up but it does back fire alittle i think i have a 175 in there and i have a full exhaust with air filter cover removed

i can start my 04 in -15 degree weather for ice racing

turn on gas
turn choke on
pump it alittle
kick over a couple times
pump again not to much
then kick!!!!

if it doesnt start put a mr.heater on and blow it right on the motor

Id say 175 with your setup is a little lean especially if you say it backfires..I dont know if thats your starting issue but Im willing to bet if you check your plug itll be lean. 180-185

no the cooler the temp is the higher concentration of oxygen there is so as the temp gets lower you need more fuel to keep it from being lean...think of it as when your starting the engine when its cold you need more fuel to start it easier
