There's no such thing as HDR(I) photos. Just HDR. And it will be impossible for someone to take a "true" HDR action shot, as an HDR shot is composed of 3 different shots merged into one (with different light exposures).

Here are a few non-action HDR pics I have of my LTR450:

Yeah I really like HDR pics as well. They were one of the main reasons that I got a DSLR camera.

I think that the action shot of the KTM isn't a "true" HDR, it is just a shot that someone took and then used an HDR effect on it. Like I said before, an HDR shot requires 3 of the exact same pictures (or nearly exact) at different exposures. This would be impossible to do with a moving object.

Either he could have applied the HDR effect in photoshop, or he could have taken the picture, and made 3 copies of it on his computer - each at different exposures (-2, 0, +2), and then used Photomatix to produce the picture as you would with a real HDR pic.

So to clear up what I'm saying: yes HDR pictures of moving dirtbikes/quads are possible, but they aren't "real" HDR pictures.

Here are a few more "real" HDR pics I have taken:

So, you used this camera?

A friend of mine uses the Pentax K-x. He took this HDR photo a few days ago. It´s a true HDR photo.

Yup that's the camera, EXIF data doesn't lie! Not a bad entry-level DSLR IMO. Would like to get a better lens though, but I don't really have the money (damn quads/dirtbikes!)

And that's a nice picture! I've never tried to take an HDR picture at night, now I have a challenge!

What does a camera like that cost.

Got it on boxing day for approximately $900, including a Lowepro bag, clear lens cover, extra battery, and an 8GB SD card in a package. Remember that I'm in Canada and everything is more expensive here haha.

They have a T2i out now, so I'm sure mine has come down considerably in price since then. You can get a more "basic" entry level Canon DSLR for about $500 or $600 up in Canada, not sure about the US. Easiest way to check would be to go on Best Buy's website.

I can't believe how clear and detailed those photos are. I have been looking at cameras for sometime. That might have to be the one I get. But you said that you can't take action photos with that camera?

Oh you definitely can, it's just you can't take "true" HDR action shots. You can take non-HDR action shots though.

Let me re-explain HDR: You take three shots in quick succession. You can program the camera to take the first one at exposure 0, the second at exposure -2, and the 3rd at exposure +2. You then use a program called Photomatix Pro to "merge" the three pictures together. Then, you click tonemap, set your desired settings, and then once you process the picture, it will look like the ones posted above. After that, you can edit it in Photoshop if you desire.

A good dslr for hdr photos is the Pentax K-x. It has the hdr function and you can shot true hdr photos with that camera.

You also can take 5 different shots with the following exposure values:
-2 -1 0 +1 +2
All other camera settings have to be the same!

If you don´t have a hdr camera you can also use this programs:

Here you will find a hdr atv action photo:
