So just the other day, I got a call from a buddy saying holy smoke wait till I show ya a video I just received in a email from earlier this year @ Arkansaw cycle park in WI. So I'm game and meet him at the Mandarin buffet for dinner, he starts playing the vid for me and there's this quad blowing everybody away on a moto. My friend says the quad is a hybrid, custom 250r chassis, ohlins suspension, and get this - the motor (2 stroke) the bottom end is from a Polaris it's an automatic tranny, and the top end is from a 250r, milled & bored out to spec. On top of that he say's, it dyno'd at 80hp................Does that all come together:confused:

That would be a Polanda. Iv never seen that video but there are a few Polandas on this site. Honda top end, polaris bottom end. Very powerful motor.

We have a ice machine that we built. Its Polaris Scrambler 400 2-stroke, 4x4. Its bored to 417 and alot of other work done to it.

Bottom line, wet weight is 392lbs, and 96hp. No honda parts.

If u read that post, its a Honda bottom end with a Polaris cylinder not the other way around, so that quad still has gears its not a full auto like the Polaris would be.

I have to think its one of the old Polaris Hybrids. There are a few out there still. 250R geometry Polaris 400 2 stroke power plant. There was a thread awhile back in the Hybrid section on them.

Polonda motors used to be relatively common, but not so much nowadays with Puma and Saber making large-displacement aftermarket cylinders.

But those were all Polaris top-ends on 250r bottom ends. I've never heard of the other way around. And it has to be BIG to reach 80HP, it's got to be 400cc or better.

I think I know what he is talking about. There is a local company here in MN called HPD and they specialize in big power polaris'. Back a few years ago when 250R's were still hot in the local district 23 races there was this guy who had one. He ripped. It was full 250R geometry, fully aftermarket everything, only thing stock was the scrambler plastic. It was a full polaris motor bottom end and all and he claimed big HP numbers as well. I think around 85 HP. He loved it and he did really good at sandy tracks because he never had to shift and he was always in the power. It was always weird sitting next to him on the starts because he would just idle and then when the green light came on he weould pin it and he was gone! That thing was fast! Check out the HPD site if you want. I think they are doing more RZR stuff now, but it was definantely a sweet quad. I know of one other guy who still has one, and I saw one once on craigslist but it was off the next day. I found a pic of one, I'll try and post it.

Found a pic from the local guy who raced one here in MN a few years back. He was an older guy but was a stallion! He never got tired.

He may have I don't know for sure. I do know that he no longer races, which has been a few years.

And how do you bolt the top end to the 250r bottom end? Would that be better than a cr500 swap?

Well I did some more research, and found that the photo's of the silver HPD Polaris were from the Grantsberg WI track back when they used to allow quads to run on the same day as the bikes. So more than likely it's the same one I saw in the video, ..........guess it's true after all. :eek2:

He used to run at Grantsburg and he usually won. That track was one giant sand woop section, so with his power and auto transmission he would dominate. *Note, his motor was all polaris, no 250R top or bottom end.
