View Full Version : 04/05 to 06 up 450er carb swap questions???

Hey guys Im wanting to swap out my 06 FCR carb on my 06 450er for a 04/05 carb. Is there any modifications or other parts other than the 04/05 carb that i will need to coomplete the swap? Can i run same air box, intake boots, etc..?

if you dont have a 04 carb ill trade you mine for you fcr:D

i have no idea why you would want to do this. everyone uses the FCR carbs, they have a much better throttle responce

It's fairly popular among the XC crowd. It offers a much smoother power curve to help reduce fatigue. I believe you can use the 06+ airbox, but the intake boot will need to be stretched a bit. I've heard you can do this by putting it in boiling water, and then directly onto the carb while it's hot.

It smooths the power out on the bike. If you ride/race motocross then yea you want the snappy response of the fcr, but i ride/race in a 2 1/2 hour xc race and to me the smoother, mellower the power the better. I rode my buddys bike with the swap and i liked it, it was still powerful but didnt seem so irratic, so im going to give it a shot. If i dont like it i can always go back to the fcr...

mudzilla i dont really want to sell at the moment, so i can see for sure if i like the 04/05 carb. but if/when i do i will let ya know if ya want? Carb is in good shape with boyeseen quickshot on it...

My buddy did the swap. Your gonna have to run the entire 04-05 carb with airbox from what I understand.

ok sounds good, maybe someone else thats done it will chime in and confirm that. I hate to buy one then not need it :rolleyes:

just look at benji's air box and boot i don't think there is a noticable diff in the air box but the boot is way diff of 04-05 carbs.

yea we may have to go check it out one night. really i think the only problem would be the intake tube being long enough to attach to the carb? Benji said it was a pain to put the carb on but all of them seem to be that way lol I guess the only way to know is get one and try it out!
