I bought a used 400ex from a guy and he really didn't know anything about it. I decided to check the motor out over the winter so I started tearing it down and found it has a JE 87mm piston (415cc) and was thinking if they did a big bore they might have changed the cam too. The only marks it has on it are a B on one side and a 2 on the other anybody know a way to tell if it stock or aftermarket.

im not postive on the info, but i think if your cam is missing the decompresion components at the end of the cam by the cam gear it would have a good chance of being an aftermarket camshaft.
most aftermarket cams tell you not to install the decompresion componants upon reassembly on their cams.
i bought a used 400ex that had a bad piston and cylinder and noticed this was not on my cam and after looking at it closer it had hotcams on the end of it.it turned out to be a stage 1 hotcams.
