yesterday morning (4:30 am) my wife opened the front door and let Gauge out. She was startled when a big Barred owl flew away from the front tree, which is only 8 feet from the front door.

Well he was back this morning. I reckon he is after mice, so more power to him! Kind of freaky knowing he was so close, and I would imagine he has been there most every night , we just never knew it!

He is about 16 to 20 inches tall, and has a 3 foot wingspan!

Cool deal! I think I've only seen one owl ever in the wild.

I remember on a school trip when I was a kid we had a wildlife expert show us all kinds of animals and reptiles. One of them was a huuuuuugeee owl. It was definitely one of the coolest animals I've ever seen. It was awesome when he showed us how far they can turn their heads :p

That’s what I like about the winter time coming up, the trees are bare and you can see all the birds of pray sitting and waiting for a meal.
Down here in south Texas we get a lot of birds in the winter time.
