i have an 08 z 400 stock the only thing i have done to it is cut the spark arrestor and it surprises me. it actually improved the throttle response and torque but i need more power. i am wondering what type of exhaust to get? but i dont want it to b loud i would like to keep itunder the 95 db's.

thanks

I run a curtis sparks pipe with a jet kit and larger foam filter. It made a huge diffrence. It may be to loud for what you want. I also changed the front sproket also a big change. The bike will hit 78mph and looks for another gear.

Ive never changed my sprockets i think there fine but i only ride trails. If you just want some budget power get a k&n or i would prefer a Uni filter and a slip on exhaust which would only cost you 300 or more depending on what pipe you got. If you can spend more then that i would say to get a k&n or uni filter, 400ex intake boot, and a full exhaust which would be around 500 or more depending on what exhaust you get. As far as a quiet exhaust goes i would say they are all pretty close just make sure whatever exhaust you get has a quiet core or baffle that will help keep the exhaust quiet... And if you think taking the baffle out of the stock exhaust gives it more tourque and throttle response, wait until you get an aftermarket filter and exhaust you will be very suprised (after that, buying aftermarket parts can get addicting haha)

On my 06' KFX 400 I ran a 13T (14T stock) front sprocket to help with lower gearing for trail riding up in the mountains. It made a huge improvement in the bottom end.

I also cut out the stock spark arrestor and outlet of the stock muffler tip. It made it louder and gave it some more power. Then I got a used Yoshimura TRS slip-on from my cousin. It was LOUD, but really woke it up.

My next mod would've been a new header, filter, and some jetting.... but unfortunately I just sold the KFX yesterday... :(

i used a 400ex intake boot with a billet adapter with a 450r uni filter, that woke it up there. uncork it, gear it down, then make it handle. top speed means nothing in the woods.
