Can I do it?

I have an 01 400ex and I have an opportunity to get an 07 bottom end off of a guy I ride with. From what the guy says it is complete, could I put the 07 into my 01 or do I have to do some major modding to make it fit?

subscribed since i cant remember all of the details of it. It is mainly a bolt on deal but you will need the cables for the reverse and possibly a different motor mount off of the 05s. the carbs and stuff are close enough to use, the gears for the mainshaft coming out are different also since the splines are different so that will be a bit different but otherwise i have always understood it to be a pretty simple bolt on deal with your top end. im interested now. steve

I'm pretty sure he has the gearing setup and I will have to check and see about the cables and other "goodies" lol

the sprockets are different from the 04 lower and the 05 plus. it is a different drive shaft so your old sprockets wont fit it. thats about the only thing that is different enough to note i would think. steve

no prob, i am interested to find out if there is anything i missed. It seems like there may be something but it should bolt in and such. all of the top end parts should be the same. the heads have a different part number on them i believe but i think that is just a change to go along with the reverse deal and the carb. i have heard that the starter may also be different but i have not been able to verify nor have i heard of anyone having issues with any year mounting to any bottom end. steve
