Well after almost 20 years of riding I took my 2nd real tumble today on Divide Peak Trail. It is an extremely rutted out trail that is ok for dirtbikes cause the ruts are single track but SUCK for a quad. It was a section I have ridden many times but with the recent rains it has gotten way gnarlier....

It is basically a really steep hill with a 2ft rock face drop into a 2ft single track rut, I hit it weird and it send me over the bars and the quad end over end but back onto it's wheels! It was my first ride out with my new Pro Taper ATV HI bars, bar risers and new grips and the f*cking bars bent!

The bend isn't bad but it's there and I'm pissed but to be honest I'm not sure I like the bars, they are really wide or something, I kinda preferred the feel of the stockers....I dunno what to do, show me pics of your bar set up.

You do know you can cut them down if they are too wide? I have the same ones and been thinking of taking off about 1/2 in on each side.

However they feel rather comfy for me overall. Then again Im 6ft tall and have rather long arms and legs.

Could it be the steering stem? I hear the pro taper are pretty durable....

Ill also add that just now I went out and put my battery on charge and decided to sit on the quad.

Was out riding all day and Im sore-but the bars I adjusted multiple times and found that even tho im tall they are a wee bit to high maybe with risers..IDK for sure. So I got a small 1/4 thick pc of plywood and sat on it on the seat and it felt fine. I might remove the risers, I might get some seat cover with more padding, maybe my seat padding is wore out-not sure.

Whatever the case there is always the pivoting rox risers. I been thinking of getting a set. http://www.roxspeedfx.com/cgi-bin/cart/showitems.cgi?subcat_id=256 since they allow you to move the bar wherever you want period..which is very nice.

Yea I am gonna have to do some adjusting cause right now I don't feel comfortable at all.

CJM

I removed the risers I had on it, they added like an inch. Feels better to me and Im happier.

Rox risers would be good of a +1 steering stem imho if you need the bars closer to you like I tend to like myself. Unlike many, my bars are tilted towards me b/c I like it like that-if they were straight up it wouldnt work at all.

dude, trust me if you rode like the picture for 20 years, you would have a few more rolls than 2.

unless u generally are more mild and that's just a rare day on the track or something

i've been riding for 6 years, and i've never had any tumbles down the hill but i've tipped it severel times.

Just because you've never rolled a quad doesn't mean you dont ride hard enough.

yes it does, nobody is that good. anytime you push the limits for 20 years, you will have to learn from your mistakes. try racing bro.

Aren't we talking about riding hard? nobody said anything about "been riding" yeah leisure riding and u can go a century with no rollovers. We are talking about riding hard here people.

u ride hard for 20 years and your gonna roll.

it seems you guys have a different definition for "riding hard"

I honestly try and avoid riding hard to the degree I expect to flip. Im a more conservative rider, no jumps fer me and no stupid stuff-aint no body gonna pay the Dr bills or missed work time or school in my case.

This weekend I went out to a local pit Ive never been to with my buddy and a buddy of his and his friends. 10 mins in the leader flips and is ok and stuff thank god no one else got hurt or flipped in our group.

But the riding some of the guys out there were doing wow.. At one point there was a large mound of sand they carved into a huge ramp and kept launching it. I mean they caught like 20 ft of air, and a bunch of us were on the mound too.. hell no I gotta worry about Dr. bills, work, school, etc. i do wonder if there 450s and 500+ cc bikes allowed them to have enough power to do it, my 416 was wimpy compared to them.

I wish I could ride like that but straight line fast is where I like it lol,can still flip but its generally harder lol.

Sorry to go off topic and all, but

Riding a quad is a calculated risk as it doing any sport or semi-dangerous activity.

Hell, I want a sandrail but I think I would kill myself being crazy lol...

I haven't gotten hurt real bad besides a broken wrist. Just broken and bent parts. I ride just at the peak of my comfort zone. "Your not in control but not outta control"

So only people that race are the ones that ride hard? BS. Ive been riding for about 12 years and I know what it is to ride hard. Ive rolled quads, hit trees, been stuck tons of times, been ran over once or twice, trust me I like to ride hard too. But I also know a lot of people that have been riding "HARD" for many years and I have never once seen them roll over. Did you ever think that some people like to take care of there machines? Who wants to roll there quad over numerous times and smash it all up? I know I don't, I understand it happens, but to say you don't roll over enough so you don't ride hard enough makes no sense.

I ride very hard and rarely wreck. Also most weekend warrior type riders have a job they gotta make it to for there family or what not. Ever think about that?

I ride like that 100% of the time actually, and it's laughable you think that someone with that amount of experience riding would flip all the time. Some of us try and NOT flip unbelievably so, I grew up from the time I was a kid riding 3-wheelers and then quads so I have flipped before but I said this was the 2nd real incident meaning it wasn't just a little accident. I don't race MX or anything like that so I am not doing 40 foot jumps but I do ride MX occasionally and usually stick to the 20ftish doubles.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I just gotta do some tweaking, a big thing that was uncomfortable was the thumb throttle and lever positions, they were different then stock.

Well, i have been riding for well over 6 years with my 400ex. I have cleared the 50ft doubles and such that most " hard " :huh riders complete. People who ride hard and wreck just have poor judgment. I tend to over analyze the things that i am about to do, but it always pays off. I study something before i just say "$&#@ it, i am gonna do it!!". The one time i didn't take the time to think about something before i did, i wrecked and $500 later i will never make that mistake again. After 6 years of riding i have only flipped my 400ex once. So, people can ride hard and not be an idiot, and not crash but still do all the things that everyone else does.

My main thing with taking risks while riding and riding harder and not as conservative is no one is gonna pay my med bills or lost time from work if I really hurt myself. Med care is $$$$$

X2 it gets worse when you get older and have kids and people to support. I don't have kids or a wife, just a girlfriend but she is hard enough to support with the little $$$$ i make.
