I'm doing a motor swap in my Blaster and I'm to the point of setting the intake and carb, but I'm having some interference with the gas tank. Well, some is an understatement. I need to work an area of about 3"x3" and move it about another 2" into the tank and on top of it, I also need to make a groove for the throttle cable to exit the top of the carb and run to the front. I've spent about 4 hours over the last week using a heat gun and gradually working the area, it's working but not nearly enough. I've thought about cutting the area and trying to plastic weld the tank but I'm very unsure on that one.

I'm almost to the point of abandoning the stock tank and making a custom steel fuel tank. I could possibly increase the capacity and still stay within the stock body work, but I'm hesitant to work with such a thin material.

The exhaust was a cake walk compared to the intake so far.

Just looking for some ideas.....

I think I know who you mean. Can you pass a long the message for him to chime in? I "could" build a steel tank but not an aluminum one.

if you can build a steel one then just buy aluminum and do the same thing just find a fab shop to weld up the seems

ive used xr 50 and 70 gas tanks in situations like that, 50 works real good but you only hold about a gallon

I'm hoping to stay around 2 gallons of capacity so that kind of rules out the 50 or 70 tanks. I'm going to try a custom tank. So far, I've cut out the Blaster tank in the areas that were hitting.

here is a link to the aluminum take i made. It originally fit under the stock body work but the we decided to have no plastic at all. Then came the bars around the top for a better look. Let me know we could work something out.......
