So as of now I have a 400ex, however everyone in my riding group has moved up to bigger bikes (700r) I have really been wanting more power to play around with, not to mention not having to ride my *** off just to keep up with them cruising around. So a local dealer has a great deal on a 07 YFZ450 and I'm really considering it. However there are just a few things that are holding me back..

Yamaha has the ground clearance listed at 4.4 inches. While Honda has the 400ex listed at 4.1 inches. How can this be true? I assumed the 450's all sat lower because they were meant for the track. Does anyone actually have issues with ground clearance either way?

I ride 99% XC, trails and some harescrambles. Can this bike work for me? or is it too MX oriented?

Also as of now I've got 450r front shocks tuned for weight/riding style by GTThunder, could I direct swap these onto the YFZ?

Any help or comments would be appreciated

ive got a yfz and i love it for the woods it makes plenty of power fairly low in the rpm range which is nice for climbing hills etc but at the same time if you find some open trails it will go as fast as you let it and get there as quickly as a two stroke ...
and since its an 07 you really dont have to worry about the oil squirter or any of that and as far as i know i have around 8 inches of travel under my swing arm and around 9 inches up front and not to mention you can adjust your ride height

That's good to hear. I actually ended up finding another dealer that has a 2010 YFZ-X for only a few hundred dollars more so I think I'm gonna jump on that deal

Yep I ended up selling the 400 and getting a 2010 YFZ-X for $5100 OTD

Very happy with purchase so far, it handles SO much better then the 400 did and it pulls like crazy

Yea I don't know if it's got the same bottom end torque the ex had, but it definitely pulls much stronger in the mid range.

Here are some pics!!

Ebensburg Yamaha in PA, it was the last 450x they had in stock. I called about a dozen other yamaha dealers in both PA, WV and MD and told them I had Ebensburg saying 5100 otd to try to see if I could get a closer dealer to match it, no other dealer could come close to that.. a few of them actually laughed and admitted they couldn't even begin to come close to that price and that I should jump on that deal right away.

I love my YFZ but will be the first to say I HATE it on the trails. Love it at the dune s but I will eventually pick something else up for trails.

Good buy though man, hope you love it.
