i was riding today and i noticed something. when i hit down on the rear brake pedal, it would get stuck and my tires would almost lockup. i checked the brake fluid and it is good. do i have to bleed the brakes?

YOu need to pull your rear brake pedal off and grease the snot out of it...it's seized up in your frame probably..;)

that is a common problem with 400ex mine got stuck my dads got stuck and my buddy down the streets stuck. they are kinda hard to get out when they are siezed. once you get it out take a grinder and make the shaft smaller and greese it good. grinding itt will make it easier to get out next time. its also a good time to greese the swingarm pivot bolt too. mine was stuck and had to plasma cut it out in 3 spots.

unhook the spring, unbolt it from the rear cylinder thing, and there should be a clip on the other side of the frame rail holding the shaft, take thatoff and wha la

While you're at it, pull the rear caliper off and anti-seize the two mounting bolts the caliper rides on. You can tell if it's not floating right if new pads won't go on right, or if pads are wearing out in just 3 or 4 rides. The pins that the pads mount on are not what I'm talking about, I mean the two caliper mounts that have the rubber gromets/seals around the heads.
