I heard one of the best starter upgrades for the 06+ trx's is the crf cam and head gasket. But what year Crf cam do i need to get? Looking for a good all around cam like the HRC. and the Head gasket is supposed to bump up the compression a little. So what year? Thanks.

04-06 CRF is the same as the 06+ HRC cam

Is there a difference in the 04/05 cams and the 06+ cams. Like in the way they affect the power band? Like If i put the 05 HRC cam in my 08 will it give me the mid and top end that it did on my 05 bike.? Or does it change? I thought i read somewhere that if i put the 05 HRC in my 08 i would gain nothing but top end? Im just trying to get everything straight before i buy another cam when ive already got one. Thanks again for the help.

From what I understand... If you were to put the 04/05 HRC in the 06+ it would be all top end and if you put the 06+ HRC cam in the 04/05 if would be a bottom end cam. The newer head need less lift then the older head if that makes any since to you. I've never tried it, just going off of what I have read.

If you already have the cam toss it in and see what it does... You not going to lose anything but the time it took you to swap it out.

Here's a little treat for ya.. Search item number 400165148167 on eBay.

Your right i found a sticky thread over on the org about the cam differences and such. And thats a steal on that cam on e bay. Im just skeptical about buying stuff iff there. Been shafted a few times. ya never know what your gettin. So i just ordered the 06 crf cam and head gasket thru my local dealer. I got the cam for 100 bucks brand new from honda. So i dont guess thats too bad.
Thanks for the help.

Ok so that deal fell thru somehow. But im thinking of going with a 02 crf cam instead for more top end. Anyone with any input on this?

I thought the 08 cam was different, and we can't use the CRF cam. Is it just the decompression stuff and it will swap over?

it depends, is it a kick start or a e-start? the kicker uses the older style cam the e-start uses a whole new shibang

If you get the decompressor set up from an 07 or older, you can use the older cams in the 08-09 e-starts.

The cam tower in the 08-09 e-starts still have the provisions for the old style decompressor, Honda never changed the tower.
