I am trying to figure the best route to go with my son's 2004 TRX90. He doesn't race but he needs a little more power. We need something with some torque for hills. I have a 140cc Lifan engine but he doesn't want to use a clutch yet.

I am thinking either the 104cc or the 114cc kit. I don't want to split the case so I don't think I can do the 114cc kit since the case requires some grinding. Unless someone has a trick for this?

Also I plan on an exhaust and rejet the carb. I think there is a Keyway I can get that will advance the timing. Any help or input would be great.

Not all 114cc kits require grinding. T-BOLT has a kit that doesn't require grinding.

And I think DRATV might have one also.

I am guessing a stock head should be fine for now. Anything else you recommend.

Head and cam and 26mm carb all fairly cheap you won't really notice a difference with the bigger piston

I have a carb already from my other engine. I totally forgot about a cam. I don't think I can afford a head right now so that will have to wait.

I am sure just a new piston will help a ton. The engine is getting a little tired out from when we first got it.

Tbolt is great HOWEVER the 114cc kit that does not require case mods has a turned down sleeve which i wouldnt recommend. JMHO... turn her upside down, stuff the bottom end full of oily rags and break out the dremmel. Or have the cases bored to fit the larger cylinder (all of or motors have the cases bored), a little more money but more accurate and you dont have to worry about the cases "pinching" the sleeve

I was trying to figure out how they did it. I never though about turning the engine upside down. Hopefully I can get this done before Christmas for him.

If you do the dremmel case mod, just make sure no shavings get in bottom end and rinse it out real good to be safe. Make sure the new larger cylinder fits in the case real nice with NO pinching or binding. Good luck
