Are they ok, or junk? They are all over ebay, about $50+shipping. Maybe I will hold out for an OMF. Had an OMF on one of my old 400ex's and it was nice.....

They look decent to me, i know the OMF's are known to loose the knobs that screw on. I had a friend that lost them all the time and he HATED his omf with the screw on knobs.

I remember what I did to my first 250r way back. It was a 86 with the steel pins. I removed them and welded in two bolts and drilled holes for the linch pins. I had to grind the heads way down to make it bolt to the seat pan. It worked great and best of all it didn't cost hardly anything....probably still running around that way. Lol.

i bought a used OMF without knobs and then machined new ones out of nylon rod. when i tapped it i used a roll tap rather than a standard tap with cutters and this gave me a very tight fit. with the tighter tolerances and material characteristics i never even had on come loose, let alone lose one.

I use one. The seat doesn't move half as much as it use too. I think they are worth it.

if people would use the spring to connect the knobs on the OMF latch they wouldn't lose them...

Thanks to all who repiled. When I had the OMF on a 400ex, i never had any problems with it. I did always have the sring between the knobs. That probably kept them from coming off.

I will probably buy on like is pictured above. They are easier to find than an OMF.

My 87 has a OMF-my 89 has a old Nac's one I believe-my Dad's has a Lonestar...they all work great.

Btw James Lucky Atv still has the OMF ones on their website for all years.....either 86/87 or 88/89 will work. If you end up finding a used one cheap for the wrong year you just have to drill extra holes to make it work.

i never lost the knobs on my OMF. i dint even know there was supposed to be a spring. I use safety wire though to keep them from backing off. same idea as what the spring was probably supposed to do...

I use that style of latch. Mine, I believe, is a lonestar. Works great, never had any problems.

Iv'e never lost my knobs either. I had the spring on em for prolly 3 years and lost the spring and rode without it for the past 2 years. Still have both knobs. I also have the hitch pin type and it works equally as good.

I bought one of the hitch pin stlye ones off fleabay. If you are looking for a cheap OMF, HURRY and get on ebay.
This one ends in just over an hour.
It might be worth it if you just need the knobs.......
