Whats this rare 2004 worth?
Check out the pics. This is as close to new as you can find.
The original tires still have the nubs on them. The factory stickers are still on the inside of the rims.

It is obviously a clean machine.
wish it was mine.

unfortunately for the seller,
he is probably going to be disapointed as to what it will actually sell for, in todays Buyers market.

I bought a clean all original EX just like that for $1800 a few months ago......It had all the factory paint marks on the nuts and bolts too....

You might be able to get $2300 or so but for anymore and people are gonna buy a 450R....Just the way it is.

Paid $2000 for one just like it this last March.
The price just revolves around your local market.

As a comparison I bought my 2002 that had been bored to 416, stage 1 Hotcam, White Bros R4 pipe, rejetted, K&N filter, AC nerfs, AC front bumper, not a scratch on it, not a spec of dirt anywhere, nubs still on the tires, etc. Also got the stock pegs, bumper, cam, exhaust, air filter, piston, jets and several filters. It was better than new coming off the showroom floor and I paid $2200. The guy's wife had only ridden it a handful of times. He had a number of quads, snowmobiles, boats, motorcycles and kept everything in tip top shape. His building with all his toys in it was about 60x70 and you could eat off the floor. Don't over pay just because it's all original in good shape. It's still a stock machine. My 2 cents.

It's worth nothing to me. I'm a Rider not a Museum Curator. For that kinda money you can get a nicely modded 4Hundy ready to run. That's My 2 cents.

With all of the examples now given,...
(and I have intentionally excluded my own bike),

would I be too far out of line here to suggest,
that using the term "rare", to describe this bike,
might be a bit of a misnomer ?

I can't even read the thread title without laughing, there is NOTHING rare about a 2004 400ex. Yes, this ones in good condition, but that doesn't make it RARE by any means.

Agreed 100%. and heres a better question. Why havent you ridden it? Its not a garage decoration its a quad, They are supposed to be ridden. Max you will get is 1500, Mine is completely aftermarket and i bet i wouldne get 3000 for it

What I meant by rare is. It's not all beat to Sh_ t for a 6 year old quad and has very low hours on it. Any way I bought it for $2300 seemed like a fair price for the condition.

You paid a fair price for a VERY nice quad. No matter what a bunch of kids on a website say, you made a good buy.

$2300 was a fair price for both you AND the seller.

Think of it this way,...
He basically got top dollar for the bike. That's fine.
but,
You got a pretty much Brand New, near Showroom condition,
machine, for 1/2 price.
Can't complain about that at all.

When both parties are happy with the deal,...
It's a good deal.

Enjoy riding it, and make sure you post up a pic of the first scratch. ;)

Few years ago before all the cool 450s were really coming out I got a semi beat 00 EX for 1500 bucks. Needed some work but at this time most of them were selling for about 2500-3000k easy. Now its amazing how cheap they are.

honda400ex2003
10-19-2010, 09:32 PM
whats even worse is that some of the 450s are selling in the 2500-3000 range around here. :eek2: yeah you read that right. 2500-3000 around here. the 400s though arent much cheaper which is surprising imo. they are still going for around 2000 grand for the 99-03s and up from there depending. im not saying they are going for that but they are listed there at least. steve

the cheapest asking price i personally have ever seen a 450r for sale for was 2100, just the other day on craigslist, in colorado.

i personally don't where all these people are finding these $1000 400s and $1500 450s. its funny to me everyone on "has a friend" that got the deal of the yr. but it wasn't them. whenever i check craigslist, a bunch of places in the midwest and the west, i never see anything listed that cheap.... just saying.

Hell, I watched mine for weeks on craigs waiting for the price to drop. Then I showed up with what I wanted to pay for it and of course they took it.

Do you ride at 0 MPH with no engine? Because that's about what it sounds like your bike is worth.

I'm implying the quality of your bike, almost as if it had no engine, but it was more of a joke than anything.

I have a clean 2004 400 EX and I ride the pee pee out of it. BUT I clean it too. Yes it has scratches and some cracks BUT I paid FULL price back in 04 from the stealership. My first on was an 2001 model and was the BEST impulse buy I have EVER made! That 04 is a great deal as clean and unused as it is. The TRX400EX SPORTRAX model line frigging ROCKS!!!!!

I am new on here but I paid 1500 for an '04 that was pretty well "RIDDEN HARD" but the motor was still strong and clean so I figured cosmetics are the easier fix.

While I understand where you are coming from, a bike with little to no wear means high reliability. And as reliable as 400's are modded you have no idea how well they did their own work or how well they took care of it. At least by buying one that has 20 hours total on it you know exactly what condition it is in presale.
Just saying
