As the subject says, "Where is the most epic place you have ridden?"

I figure this thread may help people find great riding locations in their area.

I would have to say the most epic place I have ridden would be the dunes at Silver Lake in Michigan. Yes, they are small and the riding area is not very large but, I think everyone that rides sport quads should experience dunes at least once.

It is something so different from any of the trails that I have rode here in Indiana, Western Ohio and Kentucky. It was a blast. I have lucked out as the dunes have been shaped very well the few times that I have been there. There was only once that the dunes were a bit "peaky".

Here is some helmet cam footage from my trip earlier this year.

Here is the first video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4weY_iP5OUI)

Here is the second. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu1p6DSKMWM)

I know it's not that impressive but, the dunes and the weather were not cooperating that day. I was hitting the jump in 4th gear pinned and could not hit it any faster as it would bog in 5th.

Silverlake is fun, have been there twice BUT if you love dune riding you HAVE to go to glamis at least once. It goes on forever, Over 1000 sq miles of powder sugar sand and if you get back into the big stuff there is bowls over 1/4 mile tall. the best part, no rules. none of that one way riding up the certain dunes stuff that silverlake has. I have ridden lots of places I consider epic but thats probably the most epic considering people travel from all over the world to ride and film there. I "luckily" live in az and its only about 3-4 hours away from me so I can go whenever I want and am actually going to be going in about 3 or 4 weeks sense riding seasons about to start here in az/south cali

You think the dunes are epic on a bike, try riding them in a high powered sand car. My uncle has a sand car with a six cylinder Subaru engine that puts out 850 HP. The feeling is indescribable when you're riding up to a monstrous hill, and instead of downshifting to second, you grab 4th and wheelie up the dune.

Also, hitting the dunes with a bunch of people at night and getting a train going is one of the best experiences I've had on a quad.

Here are just a few pictures of my dune experiences. I don't have pictures from all the places, but I've been to Dumont, Glamis, Armagosa, Rasor Road, Coral Pink, Sand Hollow and the little local dunes here by Nellis AFB.

This was also at Coral Pink, but it was taken during a trail ride. Probably the most beautiful spot I have been on my bike.

Anyways, I head a rumor that Wellsville is rated #3 in the U.S. for best riding/size for trails

I know they call it both, but I'm pretty sure the one next to it is called orgasm and that one is mushroom hill. It doesn't really matter though, they're both great!

Very true! I currently ride a little 01 XR250R (just getting into bikes) and I am going on Saturday and I told my self I am going to try Gasm! I already made it up Scooby med. and hard side and I just really wanna try Gasm! Looks like a blast!

I personally have not done it. But I know the trick.

Of coarse you need a hand full of throttle, but it seems to me that most people hit it in 2nd, then once you get airborne (after the vertical part) you gotta hit it into 1st. I know 3 people that hit this all the time without even thinking or looking at it and that;s what they always do.

If you watch some youtube video's on it, most people who don't make it don't downshift.

Just my 2cents.

The cinders in flagstaff AZ is pretty epic to but not very well known. You ride on nothing but volcanic cinders. Here is a youtube video (not mine) of one of the bigger hills out there called $100 hill. Its impossible to make it up on a quad without paddles and even with paddles most quads dont make it up the steep part. Only way I have ever made it up was on my crf450r with a paddle. My dads raptor and my yfz wouldnt even do it. Its also WAY steeper than it looks and you will see a few people every day stall their quad and you can watch it roll all the way down smashing into pieces. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1w4QZAmaco&feature=related

Nothing is better than riding around miles deep in the woods with nothing around except a bunch of hillbilly dune buggy's, at 2 in the morning, with bent handlebars, sipping on apple tree, and wondering how the hell your gonna make it back to camp!!

Well if your in PA, your not Far! Its right basically right where PA, OH, and WV meet up!

Its defenitely the definition of extreme riding. You could easily die there driving around slowly.. seriously! No rules, No regualations, you don't have to pay unless you want to.

As fun as it is, its probably about the most abusive thing you could put any machine through! Its all rock, so your constantly getting shaken around, sliding over rocks, and when you flip, its generally not good hahaha.

Its a blast, and I wish I could just move there and live out in the woods!!

Yeah it looks pretty brutal, id be down to ride the hills, but im not a big fan of riding on boulders. Did you ever hear of the town latrobe in PA? We have some similar terrain up there and it is the most harsh stuff I have ever ridden.

I have to say, I am jealous of some of you.

Wellsville looks awesome. I am definitely planning a trip there this coming spring. I am surprised I haven't heard of it sooner. I practically live in Ohio, 4 minutes from Indiana/Ohio state line. Those hills look absolutely huge. At least to anything around here. A 10 foot incline here is considered a hill. If you have a 30 foot "hill" that is considered a big or decent sized hill. Haha

To you guys out west, you have it made. I have been wanting to get out to Glamis ever since I seen Crusty Demons of Dirt #1 where Seth Enslow goes like 300+ft off one of those dunes.

I am trying to plan a month long vacation here in a year or two and just hit all the epic riding spots out west. Little Sahara, St. Anthony's, Oregon Dunes, and Glamis.

Awesome posts and pictures, keep them coming.

wellsville has everything from easy trail to the most extreme 200ft inclines dont go there unles ur with a local or reg rider there, u can get killed there and get into bad situations if you go down the wrong trail its about 7500 to 10000 acres of hills
