ok all, this is a LONG Read, but I hope you enjoy....

We had a great time last weekend at El Mirage.
I was hoping to get to work a little more with Nickolas on learning how to use his brakes, but he just wasn't into it that much. I've learned that sometimes, it is best to let him do things at his own pace, so, I didn't really push it too hard.

Saturday, He spent a couple of hours just cruising around close to camp, going over some small bumps, trying a little bit of sand, but staying mostly on the lakebed. We putted around, kept it fun, and he was content with that.
(keep in mind, this is only his 3rd time out with his own quad)

We had a nice BBQ dinner, followed by a good campfire, and of coarse the night would not be complete without a big ration of S'mores and Flaming Marshmallows...
(Nickolas sometimes gets them a little too close to the fire ).

The next morning, as I was putting on a pot of coffee, Nickolas woke with the daily request of "Muurnin' Daaad,.... BACON 'n EGGS ?!?!?!"
(Me)- "Sure thing buddy, just wait till mom wakes up".

After breakfast, he took a few laps, but didn't really want to ride too much. I tried to coax him, but he just wanted to hang out and color in his coloring books, and kick back.

Cameron and I went for a little ride, and when we got back Mom joined in and the two of them went for a pretty good ride together, while I hung out with Nickolas in camp.
Mom and Cameron returned, and it was getting pretty warm, so everyone was just hanging around, and the kids were hitting me up for multiple Otter-Pops.

Mom sat in the camper reading her latest Vampire/smut paperback novel,
Cameron was playing her Nintendo in the trailer,
Nickolas had gone back to coloring mickey mouse 27 different shades of green,
and I was kicking back in the shade, on the other side of the camper, enjoying a cheap cigar.

After a little while, I hear Nickolas' quad fire up and leave camp.
I rush around to find that He had put on his new CP, pulled on his helmet, gloves, and had decided it was time to RIDE !

I quickly asked Suzanne if she had done his helmet strap for him, and she said no, he had just split before she even knew it. So I had to flag him back into camp to get it snugged up for him.
He came up to me and said "Daaad,... we ride Now ? ? ?"

(me)- "YOU BET BUDDY,... LETS DO IT !!!, Lemme' get my gear on !"

I suited up, Cameron wanted to join in, and I asked Nickolas where he wanted to ride.
He says, " THAT WAAAY ! ", as he pointed out off of the Lakebed, and towards the Shadow Mtns. I said "OK Bud,... You lead !",... and away he went.

Out into the trails he goes,... And he was yelling "Woo-Hoo" all along the way.
Cameron takes the lead, and I told her to just stay ahead of Nickolas, and dont let him run into the back of her.
(btw, Cameron had decided to jump on Suzannes 250EX, and thought she was hittin' the Big Time, LOL! )

We rode all the way up past Grey Mtn., and circled it half way up towards the Shadow Mtns.
Here's where it was getting funny,.. since I have Nickolas' quad geared WAaay Down, and I've got the throttle limiter not far off of **CVT full engagement**,... it only goes about 10 mph.

Apparently, The wide sandy trail, and the soft rolling/rocking action of the speed was causing Nickolas to get a severe case of Highway Hypnosis, and the little dude kept FALLING ASLEEP, while we were riding ! LOL !

I'd watch as his head bobbed up and down,.... getting lower, and lower with each bob,.. and then his chin would go to his chest, and his quad would come to a stop, just sitting there idleing ! LOL !
I'd pull up to him and ask if he was ok, ... He'd wake up, lift his head, and say "DAD, Where's Cameron ???"
(me)- "She's up that way Buddy", and he'd reply with "Hurwwy, Lets GO !", and he was off and running again.
I was cracking up watching it, as he repeted doing did this about 10 times.

We turned it back towards the lakebed, and stopped at Grey Mtn. for a few minutes. He was doing fine, and Cameron was having a blast riding "Mom's BIG Quad".

We got to the lakebed about 2 1/2 miles east of camp, and headed it back towards the camper.

I did take a bunch of video of it, but I havent learned how to do the video editing yet, and it's probably close to 30 minutes long.
so I'm sure you guys don't want to sit through that at the blistering speed of 10 mph,.... LOL!

ANYWAY, when we got back home, I pulled up Google and mapped out our Trek.
As it turns out,....
Nickolas did a FULL 8 MILE RIDE ! ! ! YAaa-HOOoo !!!

We had a GREAT time, and I think he's just about ready to take on all contenders !
That's my BOY !!!

Nickolas,... YOU ROCK !

My wife is looking at me, wondering why I'm laughing my a** off. I can't tell her, because she reads those stupid books, too.

And of course, congrats to Nick. An 8-mile ride at 10mph is no small task. :D

I know exactly how you feel, very proud. My son that is 6 has been riding a crf50 for a year now and finally in August the training wheels came off and he never looked back. I was so proud of him and how well he picked it all up and now he is the leader and have to follow him everywhere.

it took us about 1 1/2 hours to do this ride....
but I'll tell ya what....

I had more fun, and enjoied that ride, as much, (or MORE), than if it would have been with all "The Guys", at 50+ mph !

(but I will be honest here)...

Riding the 'Fo-hundy at 10 mph, is harder than HELL!
10mph is too fast for staying constantly in first gear,
(rpm's high, and causing too much heat)....
but it bogs second gear something horrible, and just wants to stall!

I may need to drop 1 tooth on my primary sprocket, just so I can cruise it in 2nd gear ! LOL!

Nothing better than riding with your kids! I used to race MX and loved it but there is something special about teaching my boys how to ride. All the best to you and your family!

awesome man.

sweet that he's having fun doing small stuff. it's always a little scary when they start doing new things...

my daughter is 17 months and has a seizure disorder (don't ask me why she's not epileptic, apparently they don't like to label them that way  ) we pack her all the time, but I'm slightly concerned for the day she starts to ride on her own lol. she LOVES riding, she screams and holds the bikes when we attempt to get her off half the time lol I'm scared but also can't wait til she can ride on her own :)

super stoked for you guys!
