The easiest way I have found to do this is to loosen the carb, and take the rubber straps off the fuel tank so it lifts up a little bit, then rotate the carb to one side.

It seems a little bit hoakey, but it works. If your worried about **** leaking in, just move the carb to one side and tighten it up there.

Once its rotated to one side you can get to it with a screw driver.

you can rotate it or you can use a small screw driver in there.

like that. take the breather tube off of the engine block also that will help. then you have to snake it between the idle cable and the front of the carb. crazy stuff but it works for me. steve

Another thing I did was to remove the screw that holds the Idle cable bracket on to the carb and left it hang freely for easy access anytime. That keeps it out of the way and much easier to get to the A/F screw. I also use a Pilot screw adjusting tool that fits in nicely, with the Idle screw out of the way, and keeps your hands away from the heat. Works Great. And no need to twist the carb to the side, Another bonus.

loosen hose clamps on carb and tank straps twist and turn set screw. my 05 was alot more bs. i took tool drilled hole in bottom put in a machine screw and now i dont have too loosen anything. i can get to it from idle screw side bracket side

What I did was...

Remove the idle screw bracket bolt...
Let that hang freely...

(the dang fuel screw should be set up the same way)

Then I bought a craftsman bit ratchet...
I put a proper sized flat head bit in it...

Then I put on a heat resistant glove.
I put that hand under the bit ratchet to hold to the screw...

Then I ratchet away....

I think you could also probably get by with putting blocks under the right side tires, then rotate the carb.

I don't think it would hurt, none of the rubber would touch anything it wasn't before. Also the part connecting the screw to the carb is normally meant to be bent.

I've owned my '99 since 2000. Although it's been threw several carbs, All the Honda carbs on it had dangling idle screws with no problems. Pretty much everyone I know does this. Some cut the bracket itself off the cable, but I've never seen the need to other than looks. Sure saves time when the weather turns quickly as it does here in Michigan. 90* today, 40* tomorrow lol

Does that make adjusting the idle any harder? lol I'm guessing no since I can do that with my fingers.

I have the D bit from Dynojet, so getting to the F/A screw is still gonna be stupid hard.
