you may want to try lighter roller weight .

How do they effect power

rotating mass is how it affects it, the more weight the quicker it starts to shift, like starting off in 3rd gear, it shifts so quick it doesn't let it get in the power band until later, thats where the bog at the begining comes from. lighter weight lets it get in the power band from take off and stay in the power band through the complete shifting process.
go to g-force powersports and look under the tech section, they have really good explaination on how cvt system works.

what is your clutch stall rpm?
if no tach install one 1st thing!
then set your stall,on a stand your tires should start to quiver at 6k or so

What you are referring to not gripping till half throttle is your stall speed that is very much so the norm. As the one gentleman said 6000 is a used rpm by some, the goal though for optimum performance is the lowest stall you can achieve without a drivability issue.
The cvt system is tuned with two specific parts roller weights and spring tension.
There are many variables that play into your tuning though, ramp angle, compressed spring tension, belt length, belt width, belt angle, as well as stall speed, bushing length, bushing tolerance, and well much more
Give us a call we can help tune it on the phone although if you’re not that far away the cvt tuning seminar would help you more than anything you may do.
