will a 450r swingarm work on a 250r? if so is it a direct bolt on or are any modifications needed?

A 450 swinger is a bolt on with the 86 and 87 frames, switch the 450 bushings with the ones out of your 86-87 swinger. Now your gonna have to use the 250r shock and linkage. Unless you want to mod the mounting points for the linkage so you can use the 450 stuff. That's my opinion, to get mine to work right I made the bottom linkage mount on the frame the same distance that it is on a 450 and had to use spacers for the top of the shock mount. Mine is set-up for xc, I used the 450 swinger, GT Thunder linkage and 450 axle, brakes and all. Hope that all makes sense if you have any questions i might be able to help

As far as a 88 frame I'm not for sure if the welded rear motor mount gets in the way.

I did this swap on my ATC and from what I was told, the 250R linkage wont work. The linkage bolt (lower shock bolt) will hit the the frame before the linkage is fully extended.

I used the 450R linkage.

awesome guys thanks for the info. sounds like a pretty simple swap. this will be on an mx quad so whats the length difference between a stock 87 swingarm compared to a 2006 450R swingarm

the 04-05 450r swinger is about the same length as the 88-89 250r swinger. so, using the 04-05 450r swinger on a 86-87 is a way to have an aluminum 88-89 length swinger. the 2006+ 450r is 1.5" longer, so I guess that benefit would just be aluminum swinger - no lenght difference compared to 86-87

check the mods sticky thread. this was discussed for 10+ pages of information of what worked and what didnt

My 450 swinger is a 07' I like the length, it helps to keep the front end down, so far this is the best handling XC quad I've had and I've had more than one.

Stock 250R axle works in the 450R carrier too. 450R axle puts the chain over 1/2" further. I used the 450R rear brakes too.
