I have a 2002 Honda 300EX. When I last put it away, it was running fine. Unfortunately, that was over 5 years ago and since I didn’t think it was going to sit for so long, I didn’t take any longer term storage precaution. Needless to say, I knew it wasn’t going to just start up.
I put a new battery and spark plug in it. Drained the gas take and put in fresh gas. I pulled the carburetor out and took it apart. I soaked all the jets in carb cleaner and then blew them out with compressed air. I sprayed the inside of the carb and all orifices with carb cleaner and with compressed air.
Once I got it all back together, I tried to start it. With the help of a bit of starting fluid it started. Problem is, I starts with the choke on but won’t idle. As long as I have the choke on and am giving it a little gas it runs. As soon as I turn the choke off it stalls. Even once it was warmed up, it wouldn’t start or run with the choke off.
Please help!
