I just finished my 416 build and now its time for some jetting ?'s
Heres the specs: je 10.8:1 piston no base gasket, ported and polished head, sparks x-1 cam, 450r carb and fmf power bomb header, ehs airbox lid and k&n filter.

I currently have a 52 pilot 2 turns out and a 175 main and the needle is in the stock position. I had a 50 pilot 2 1/2 turns out and the pipe started to turn blue.

I read the jets r us jetting instruction and started with the pilot. I have it set to where they say it should be add fuel until it idles smoothly, and it really seems to run well but it pops like crazy on decel so where should I be looking? I have no exhaust leaks, and no intake leaks (i sprayed carb cleaner around the carb and intake) thanks guys

That sounds lean on the main side, I run a 195 in the main . Popping on decel may mean your to small on the pilot jet. Also there are two brands of jets and the numbers are not the same and are deferent sizes so just because it said 52 doesn’t mean that’s what it is. Someone will post witch ones are deferent.

I am running all kehin jets. I pulled the plug out and Its very white and chalky, which tells me its lean, but im already 2 1/2 turns out on a 52 pilot. stock is 48 just wondering if it sounds right to anyone that knows or if somethings off?

i run whats in my sig at about 1500 ft in around 50 degrees every 40 i go up i drop a main. white and chalky is lean for sure but it depends on if it was a full throttle pull or not. heres the proper method for adjusting your f/a and pilot

Then use the info provided above and tune your pilot and f/a in best you can. you will have to ride it WOT to do some tests on main jets. steve

the question im really trying to ask is : is running a larger pilot jet than a 52 unreasonable? should I be looking for another problem or is this just what the bike wants?

probably not i guess. imo it should be plenty rich though but obviously not. if you have a 54 you could try that and see how it does. steve

well i tried a 55 pilot 3 turns out and it still had a surging idle and the plug looked whitish I must have some sort of air leak somewhere. so I have abandoned the 450r carb for now cause we are leaving on wednesday for breezewood proving grounds in Pa. The 400ex carb with a 42 pilot and 175 main seems to be right there... to be continued
