How do you guys install main bearings on these 400ex cases? case in the oven, bearing in the freezer? If so what temp you bake the cases at? if not then what do you do just press them in?

also once there in how about the crank? crank in the freezer and case with bearing installed in the oven?

I wouldnt throw the case in the oven, Id try and freeze the bearing and try it like that. If not I would use a torch with propane to heat it slightly.

EDIT: I mean heat the case with torch and freeze bearing. just so were clear and no one heats the bearing..

x2 freeze them and press them if possible. they may not just drop in they may have to be swayed still lol so a press back up may be necessary. steve

my grandfather is a retired tool and die maker/machinist among other things taught me that sweating trick, works SUPER well..

For those that find it interesting, freezing contracts the metal and heating expands it.

Used the oven/freezer trick on a few diff occasions on the ole cr's/yz's, works great (dont remember the temp, I THINK we were running around 300F) Remember to put a cookie sheet or something under the case (next rack down) to protect the case from direct heating in one general area.

HOWEVER this propane torch idea is tits! Im all for it next time ;)
