I just got my new hubs and bearing carrier in the mail today and i'm about to start re-assembling the bike. When i took everything apart, the rear brake stay was just hanging freely, obviously not mounted properly. My question is, how does it go back on? There was a big c clip hanging in front of it as well, so im guessing that's the only thing that holds the brake stay onto the bike? Pictures would be helpful, but i'm hoping to get everything back together tonight, so the faster the response the better. Thanks in advance guys!!!

Hope this helps man. If my memory is correct it only can be bolted on one way. Notice the little tab on the brake stay, that might help you. I also think the 1st gen has a different brake stay than the 04 and up. I had to change it to my old one when I got the caliper. I could be wrong though. Good luck.

okay i think i found my own answer after a little bit of searching. The clip does indeed hold the brake stay onto the carrier. My next question is, how do you torque down the axle nut? In my package there was a note that said "do not over tighten the axle nut, 40LBS torque is proper". So with that being said, i dont have a torque wrench, nor do i know of where i can get one fast that will fit that big nut. So what do you all think? just tighten it as much as i can with some lock-tite on the threads, or wait until i can get a hold of a torque wrench?

just torgue it down as hard as u can with some red lock-tite if u can if not blue should be good and i have never heard of over torgueing the nuts so don't worry

but every one says when u do it u should bring what ever wrench u used to do the work with u and stop and check it every 30 min or so to make sure it still tight they have a tend to loosen easy

okay i'll give that a try. i have also heard about the nut coming lose after taking them off, but i'm just worried i'm going to fubar the new bearing carrier i'm putting in tonight if that nut is too tight

no i would not worry about the axel hurting the bearing just make sure u greese the carrier so it slides in easy and greese the seals or they will go bad fast

okay will do. thanks for your help. when i talked to the shop i got my bearing carrier from, they said they pre-pack everything ahead of time with grease so it's ready to install. should i still grease it more by putting some in the zerk fitting and coat the entire outside of the carrier in grease for easier install or just throw it in the way it came to me?

well i would put a little grese on everthing u put in outside of carrier, brake mount, hub all on the spindles helps everthing go in easy and u should but some on the inside of the seal that the axel rides on or the rubbing axel will wear a dry seal out fast
