You couldn't pay me enough to do this. I don't really think they have to worry about OSHA walking in and catching them in the act of climbing without being tied off :p

If you are scared of heights, be forewarned! (http://video.yahoo.com/watch/8244494/21915033)

not no, but hello no! there's no way, absolutely no way you'd see me ever do that.. i kinda felt a little nausea when he had started out, but its passed... after the vid was over i realized that my hands were pretty sweaty... could you imagine falling from up there... all the time that you'd have to think this sucks.... this really sucks.... etc. etc. and splat... lol

i think going down would be worse than going up... they should just parachute down, be one heck of a base jump...

There is NO way in hell that you could get me up there. Even if someone put 1 million dollars in my hand, I know that I would freeze up the second I got out of the elevator.

i know you need certifications and all, but these guys should be wearing chutes. Definetly for the way down. F the tools. Send them down via their own parachute lol. The climb down would definetly be worse

Anybody else have to look at the floor every couple minutes while watching that? Tower climbers, or anybody that climbs anything get huge respect from me.

Im going to college for telecom right now and we started our pole climbing class last monday. I hate it. I'm scared of heights and it scares the crap out of me. I'm going to try and make it through the semester but I'm not sure if I can. it's not required and I have no intention of getting a job climbing poles but it would like nice on a resume.

I would give that job a try as long as I was tied off... That has to be a rush.
How much do you think that tower sways at the top? lol
All it would take for me is 200k a year and its done.
To be honest I might pee my pants a little the first few times.
Those guys must have years of exp. to go that high.

You better have some legs to do that, I used to hang steal and I had no problem with heights, but to climb that tower my legs would never make it. I’ll bet the money is good though.

i spent ten years in cell tower construction and communications work as a foreman and worker and what he said about osha not requiring to be tied of is b.s. anything over 6' off the ground requires 100% tie off.I have seen several guys fall with there harnesses on and even had one have a heart attack on a 250' tower and all were ok a little shaken but all right.I have seen two free climbing cowboys hauled away in body bags and a mother who pulled her husband and two sons through the top pf a 1500' guy tower in Florida by unhooking safety equipment and riding the head ache ball up to the top. It is one of the most dangerous occupations there is. I worked on 330' towers loved the view but got to my nerves at the end.

Thats true osha would have a heart attack if they saw that. Osha would drop dead if they saw what I do at work on a daily basis .:blah:

Wow, that made me sick just watching lol. I could probably climb it but I would never do those switches where he had to turn around and get to to a different ladder. I wouldnt trust my balance or grip.

in my carpenter days we had to build a 300 foot tall scaffolding which took 2 weeks and when we were near the top it would sway from side to side about 4-5 feet all day....I hated it

God I felt sick after watching that. The craziest part is that he has that 30lb tool bag hanging under him all along. Imagine if he slipped and fell on the guy climbing after him. For me the best part about this would be having your mind off everything else, you're just climbing, not thinking about anything. No way in hell I would do it :p

that pole has got to be swaying 8-10 ft in the wind. f**k that for real. the height deff wouldnt bother me. its the swaying in the wind and how tired your legs feel on the climb up that would bother me. just waiting for them to give out and..... well, we all know what would happen..

tough breed of worker right there. dudes have "huevos grandes" for sure..

I hate heights, I get freaked out when the ski lift at the local mountain starts swaying. Don't ask me how jumping my quad doesn't bother me though, cause I have no idea.

That is awesome! i've climbed light poles for my dad, highest was 135 feet it was awesome and even at 135 you can feel the wind sway. i bet that took every bit of 4 hours to climb.

Not sure if i would do that if given the chance but there are a few 800-1000 footers around here that i wouldnt pass up the chance to tag along on. I honestly think id be worn out climbing something in that range anyways (800-1000). I fly over these towers all the time so i tend to think about it alot.

The tower was 1,7xx ft tall. The elevator took them up to 1,6xx ft.

i have worked in telecom for 6 years now, and worked with many tower crews. those guys dont make a whole lot of money. some start out as low as $11 per hour. Half of them work at night during a maintenance window. Pathing microwave dishes at night is very tedious work, and i have seen guys up on the tower for way over 8 hours. they tend to be a rowdy, rough neck bunch.
