Have an 89 250r with the stock plastic and graphics but since they are hard to come by looking to purchase some aftermarket plastic to ride. I remember Maiers used to be pretty weak but that was 15 years ago. What do you guys think, fullbore or maier and why? Just came across this site recently and must say there are some sick quads posted in the show me your r thread.

Thanks

Mike

maier has come a long long way.. if you want the oem look thats the only way to go. its far from factory but its not to bad. i just bought a white set 2 months ago. also if you want the oem style hood and headlight you have to go with the maier..
fullbore plastic is also very good. it more of a aftermarket racer style of a look but its good strong durable plastic..
i would stay away from the 1 peice maier fronts that they have, from what i have seen they never match or fit well..

it will be up to you and your riding style, headlight options and things like that..

Thanks for the quick reply. So the quality is essentially equal? If this is the case I will most likely go with the fullbore. Does the fullbore come with the fasteners, any recommendations on who to purchase from? I know its a lot to ask for my second post but does anyone have pics of the fullbore with the full front fenders, not the race cut?

i have maier one piece on my rR and i like the look and durability of it. the only place it doesnt quite match up is where the rear fender meets the front by the seat. i have maier stock replacement rears and maybe that has something to do with it. the rears are now trimmed 6" off the bottom of the fender and have a OMF seat latch to keep them from rattling. the fronts mount fine though.

Thanks for the quick replies, this site is awesome. skyeryder, your bike looks sweet. Looks like I have a tough decision to make, maier or fullbore, race cut or stock, ...... I'll let you guys know how it turns out but I think I am leaning towards the fullbores since I already have the stock look and it would be eaiser to not have to use all of the hardware from the stock fenders on the maiers. Plus I can freshen it up, I like the stock look but it has looked that way since I bought it in 92 and I can quickly go back to the stock setup in 10 minutes. I might as well get a new seat too so I don't wreck the stock one.

LAKER

They are another option just in case you weren't aware. They are a race design for sure. I have had two quads with them and love them. a little cheaper than Fullbores. Extremely glossy shine too.

My Maier plastics look pretty good i think. I would rather have OEM, but thats not a option for me.

One thing to consider is that Fullbores wont fit the desert tanks unless you trim it. But the Maier and Laker ones work just fine.

I'm in Middlesex too, south brunswick. Atv28 that's a sweet ride, that pipe looks awesome. The Maier does look good. I need to check out a couple different rides and get it sorted. I'll check out the Lakers as well. Looks like the three brands are very similar and comes down to looks.

here is a pic of my maier one piece race cut fronts. the back are maier stock replacements that have had the bottom 6 inches trimmed off to match the fronts.

I can't stand the laker plastic. I like the look, I like the shine. However they seem to buldge next to the tank ( or over hang more then others or something) But if your a racer you will snag the upper portion on your boots when you go from sitting to standing and it will drive you crazy (at least me). I just bought new white fullbores. They were on backorder forever... but it was worth the wait.

Where is the best place to purchase the fullbores? They come with all the hardware, correct? Here's my ride. Need to powdercoat the frame and get some new shocks. Hopefully this winter.

Here's mine with full-fender maiers. Not OEM, but it looks good and they have held up well....I rolled 3 or 4 times with these fenders and there's hardly a scratch.

Silverlake, I like the setup looks nice and clean.

Thanks! Can't decide on my next build though...probably will be either lakers or maier 2-piece race cut with a quadtech naca duct hood. Color is a hard choice too. I'm thinking either an '88 look or a metallic blue frame with white fenders.

I like the stock 88 look with the oem graphics.

Personally I like the FullBores. They are thick, tuff and they hold up well. Just my 2cents............
