really any tire with a flat profile will slide nice. turf tammers, holeshots, razr's. also a wider tire will slide better

tamers look like cheap junk but i have seen alot of people using them.how do they hook in a straight line.do any of yall guys use tamers mxracing.thanks

tammers are awsome. they hook up best on hard park. when custom grooved the hook up in softer dirt. they are also cheap as **** so it's nice when they are nice to replace.

I've also heard that skinnier tires slide better, thats why the new mxr is an inch skinnier than the old mx. And I've been told to run the 9.5 tamer versus the 11.

I apologize, I do not know much about MX racing, but I too think that a skinner tire would be easier to slide than a wider tire. Reason being that a wider patch should give you more traction, thus causing you to "2 wheel" in turns rather than slide.

The only time you will get better traction out of a skinnier tire is when your in deep mud or riding through deep snow ect. For mud/snow you want the tire to sink into it better so you have a better chance of reaching the ground and picking up more traction. On the MX track however..... Wide tires hook up better then skinnier tires.

Let me get this straight.... A wider tire slides better and a skinnier tire gets more forward traction? You should take Physics over again.:macho

I agree with mostly all these guys. A "square" looking tire will slide better. The balloon stockers have a huge sidewall and the bigger the sidewall, the more sidewall flex which leads to 2-wheeling(bicycling). Yeah, Turf Tamers do look like cheap junk, but more GNC National Championships have been won on them than any other tire.

think about it this way... skinny cuts into the ground, a wide tire stays on top and slides better. why do you think front tires bite so good? throw your front tires on the rear and your rears on the front... youll see.

Turf tamers are so awesome i love those damn tires. they hook up so good i just about everything, race grooved ones are even better too. and cost 30 bucks too

I'm curious as to why ITP would make the new mxr one inch narrower than the mx when I've heard countless people complain about the 11 inch holeshot not being a good slider. Would this not just make it worse?

ive ridden a quad with the old mxs on them it was a cdale moto 440 and it slided really good with those tires, actually felt like i was on butter tires. maybe the people that complain are using the tires in sand pits and places that arnt good for sliding, the MX tire is designed for closed course races. and closed course races usually have nice loamy hard pack dirt where the mx can slide good. now say if your at southwick, every dang tires is not goin to slide that much on that soft sand.

i agree with you on "wider is better" BUT, front tires hook up good because of the ROUND sidewall profile, so of course its going to dig in.

Now, you guys say wider slides better. but which hooks up better in a straight or out of a turn? 9.5 0r 11?

I wish they made tamers in a 9'' rim.

Naa You have it backwards.

Skinnier Tire=More Sliding

Wider Tire=More Traction.


Think about it.....The more surface there is to grab the more grab you are gonna get. The less tire there is means the less tire there to grab hold and pull ya.

Tamers are just about the most prodominate mx tire out there.

i would guess 11 hooks up better bc of more contact area on the ground but maybe the skinnier do because they dig into the ground. im confused

fast trekkers are great for sliding. and i personaly find that the wider ones GIVEN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS will slide better. on hardpack, wide grips, in soft stuff wide slides.
