i have an 86 TRX350 4x4 and the rear shaft boot was cracked and was leaking some kind of oil. i got a new boot for it and i was wondering if the oil was coming from the engine and leaking from the seal, or if it was gear oil coming from the rear chunk? thanks.

I would thing it's from the motor if it is at the front of the drive shaft. And rear end oil if it is from the rear of the shaft drive.

thanks man. i was thinking it was hard for 80W-90 gear oil to travel up the swing arm and into the boot. but i was goin to make sure.

I would say it wouldn't be impossible, but it would be VERY unlikely. My dad had a couple of 350's and the one he bought new we estimated to have about 75,000 miles on it, His 99 450 Foreman has over 11,000 miles on it. That 350 was definately a good example of a quality Honda product, all he ever did to it was change a few bearings. Well good luck finding your problem.

ok i got a theory. if it is comin up from the rear chunk then no big deal. if its comin from the seal in the end of the motor shaft then if i fill up my rear end properly and oil leaks into the rear end, then it should run over when i pull the check cap? am i right? if u turn a complete rear end upside down will the oil in the rear chunk come outa the shaft tube????

You confused me. Just keep checking both oil's if you aren't sure. One will be low eventually. I couldn't imagine oil transferring to your rear end. That would be darn near impossible.

yeah you got a good point about jus checkin the oils. i was jus keepin my ideas open on what the problem could be. i dont wanna look like a stuborn idiot that wont accept anyone elses ideas.
