help with spindles

my buddy got a used quad off of a guy a few months ago but never asked what year spindles he was running on the front and he broke a spindle at a race yesterday and isn't sure if it is 04 05 spindles or 06 and up spindles. is there any why to tell by looking at them or how can you tell what they are?

Where the spindle goes into the knuckle, it will be sunk in on an 05 and raised a little on 06 up. I forgot the numbers, but I'm sure a search could find them. Once you know what to look for, its not hard just to be able to look at them.
