Well.... recently came the time to replace the stock pads on my 2004 400.... well... i did the pads the other day... and now I can not spin the wheel... seems the caliper is moved into the rims.... they are not stock rims... they don't move... Finally figured out it was the caliper that was pushing into the rim.... So... i added a set of washers to the hub studs.... and now my question is... am i asking for trouble? or am i ok?the lug nuts are tight... but i was wondering was what are everyone else's opinions/???

What kind of rims do you have? I would think if you're set up was working properly before you changed the pads that the issue would be with the caliper install. I dont see how a row or two of washers behind the rim would hurt even tho it is not proper. Got any pics.?

My rims are off a 2008 Kawasaki KFX450.... they look nice... and have some how attracted my calipers... i added a set of Grade 8 washers to each stud... total less they a 1/4 inch.... just enough to get they away from the brakes... no pics tonite... adn it's to dark to get any....

Seems odd that after you changed the brakes the caliper moved so much as to contact the wheel.

I would double check to make sure everything is on right before you commit to the washers. I see no reason why the washers wouldnt work, it so slight its barely anything.

yea valve stem should be on outside.

I was thinking the calipers might be on upsidedown, or something.

kfx450r wheels WILL NOT fit properly unless shimmed

I own both a 400EX and a KFX450R, I know they are the same bolt pattern. I have bolted my Douglas wheels to the front of both quads but have never tried to put the stock KFX450 wheels on my EX. I will check later today and let you know.

I do however know that the back rims are interchangeable and should bolt up without issues.

I had the same problem. I parted out my 250r that had the kfx wheels on it. I put the wheels on my 400ex and they rubbed. I just took a grinder to the caliper and got it to spin free. Didn't have to take much off.

I agree ..... if it fit befor the break job and not after then you may not have gotten it put back together rite.

Its because the new pads are thicker and pushed the caliper farther out.

That maybe 3/16 of an inch really pushed them out that far??

I dont see why grade 8 washers wouldnt work tho, its not a huge difference

Did anybody read my post? KFX450 wheels WILL NOT fit on a honda WITHOUT being shimmed.

You can't do anything to the caliper to make it stick out farther so that it would hit the wheels. It has 2 bolts that hold it on in the same spot. Just think about it.

Well in his case they fit fine before with no shims, or so he says.
