I have a 1996 yz125 motor sitting in the garage and want to start a new project. This will be my first hybrid build.

No votes or opinions? This will be a trail/ sand pit bike.

300ex or 250x chassis will be good because you can use 400ex a arms and for the swing arm you can use a 250r or 400ex but you will have to make a linkage mount on the frame

if you have the cash go for a 300ex. theres a long list of cheap mods to make it a great trail machine

Well I still am undecided on what frame, but I found a good deal on two Honda 250x's. One is all there and the other is 99% there. One of the motors needs a new gasket set.

IMO, the 125 won't have enough torque to pull the quad very well. It will probably be a cool machine to ride, but you will be shifting your butt off every second to keep the engine Screaming. I'm not saying you shouldn't do It, building the stuff Is half the fun!!!

I bought a welder this summer and want a new project. This will be for my son to ride when he visits, and to beat around on. My plans areto build it as light as possible. If I do go with a honda frame these are my plans. 250x frame, 400ex front end, 400ex steering stem, and a raptor rear shock, or maybe a 400ex rear end. Or if I go with the blaster frame it will have banshee front shocks, hydraulic brakes, and a banshee rear.

Don't you have to use aftermarket a arms to use warrior brakes on a blaster?

I think I've decided to use a blaster as the foundation of my build, it is lighter. As Jason Hall stated it probably would not have enough torque to push the 300ex chassis around, even with a big bore kit. Im going to build this as cheap as possible and try to keep it all yamaha parts if possible, maybe a few aftermarket parts. Any suggestions or advice about the build are welcome, especialy those who speak with experience. This is what im thinking so far, some things are not definate...
1) blaster frame with gusset kit
2) banshee suspension, suggestions welcome. no aftermarket
3) newer style blaster plastics
4) athena big bore kit

are you sure a banshee axle will fit because i know a blaster axle wont fit a banshee or warrior and a banshee rear shock would fit better than a 400ex

People have done it before, I did a search on it. The Banshee axle is three inches longer than the blaster. There are how to's all over the internet. Especialy on blaster sites. I will post a few links tomorrow. I may use a banshee shock, but right now I have access to a 400ex shock. Plus its not hard to modify a 400ex rear shock to fit.

Well I am not doing the hybrid in the near future because I decided to work things out with my ex. Due to my new expenses, it is not happening right now. However I am getting two honda 250x's, so that is going to be my new project for me and my son.
