then apparently you have never shot one. they will bounce off a cinder block, a 7.62 will decimate a block. and yes i am afraid of a bullet traveling back at me whats silly about that?

I think you've been watching too many TV shows or something. A 5.56 is not going to ricochet off a concrete block. I've shot into blocks tons of times. From about 30 yards it'll penetrate the front side of the block and that's about it.

well i shot one with a m4 at a 100 yards and they didnt penetrate every time and the for sure a few ricochet. i was shooting a ak 47 as well that day. so basically a heads up comparison. i can call up my buddy thats a gun dealer and get pics with the guns as well. but im not shootin that overgrown .22 anymore at cinder blocks and trust me im not some lil 15 year old shootin his mouth off ive got plenty of hands on time with alot of rifles. i live on a 33 acre farm and have many places to shoot.

if your so scared of ricochets, then dont waste your time or you money on something in a 308 caliber in an ar..........just get a barret REC7, chambered in 6.8 spc...it has more kinetic energy than a 556 and has a longer effective range..

how ever, you are completely safe with a normal 556 ar........they are completely effective i dont really see ricochets as a problem.

i wont have an ar. ill stick to my ak 47's. and the 556 is the worst round for anything. its small ive had it riccochet. and for long range ill stick to my rem 700. deff not chambered in .223. but this my last post on this topic i feel like a broken record and for all of you 556 lovers ask a few soldiers what they think of the round.

:huh

The .223 is one of the best rounds you can buy. They have an wide range of types of heads to match whatever you want. However I wouldn't trust it for killing someone at 600+ yards.

i truly dont think you know as much as you say or think you know what your talking about...

..get a 75g fmj 223 bullet and shoot it into a cinder block at 100 yards and see what you think then.

and to say the 223 is the worst fround for anythign, truly shows your ignorance and lack of knowledge of guns....

the 223 is probalby next to the 7.62 and the 9mm, is the most highly used ammo, world wide. its cheap, its fast, and it does in combat, what it was originated to do...WOUND.

not to mention, the 223 is the birth caliber of the EVER SO POPULAR, and very effective hunting rounds, the 22-250 and 220 swift....these are excellent rounds for hunting small game and are even effective for hunting larger game like deer, if need be...

however, you seem to know alot, and im sure your buddies picture magazines tell you a hell of alot.

do me a favor, when you get your ak..go out and shoot it off a rock, and see what happens..

the 223 has an effective range of about 5-600 yards max. but not much farther than that when it comes to accuracy.

a 308 has an accurate effective killing range of about 800-1000 yards. now true, shots have been made farther, but thats by professionals and experts.

and plus, i highly doubt anyone on this forum has the ability or equipment to make those kinds of shots. and you definitely wont make those ranges of shots with an ak.

The 308 weights a lot more than a 223. You also can carry a lot more .223 than 308 not to even mention the price. Military wise.

I shoot 200 and 300 yards and thats far enough for me. And I would not trust an ak passed 70 yards.:blah:

its highly used because its CHEAP not effective and yea i wouldnt trust an ak more than 200 yards. THATS WHY I SAID I WOULD USE MY REM 700. THAT IS CHAMBERED IN .243. in a hunting type situation for a soft target. but for personal defence i want a round that goes through a wall and KILLS NOT WOUND. and trust me i have an uncle who has been to iraq TWICE. he said if it were up to hime there wouldnt be a 223 in any soldiers hands. oh yeah hes a lt col. as well i think he has allot more exsperiance with the caliber than any of us. i have alot more knowlage than ya think heres a video of my favorite personal defence weapon that was given to me so i had to take this video. normally i dont record the guns i shoot because i dont feel a need to take a pic or a vid of everything i do. but here a vid of my saiga 12 with alot of tapco goodies.
