I already have a almost new Hinson basket. I want to upgrade my clutch somehow, it seems to slip a little even though it is adjusted the best I can. I have seen some post about "Neil's clutch upgrade"... do you guys recommend it? Is the clutch hard to pull in with the cr500 springs?
Or should I just go with basic OEM 250r clutch setup?

Thanks in advance!

I use this clutch and it works good.

Based on the mods in your sig, your Hinson basket with OEM fibers, plates, and springs should work very well.

Thanks!

I actualy tore into the clutch on my newer motor tonight. Was very happy to find that it is has a brand new Hinson basket in it already. Now I have a Hinson basket for both motors:D The fiber and steel plates all looked perfect except for one steel , which was worn down totally smooth. The springs seemed to be much less stiff and definitely shorter than the Barnett springs I took out of my old motor, so I swapped them out. I took the one smooth disc and did the old "rub on rough concrete trick" to put some texture back into it. I will hopefully get to try it out tomorrow after work as long as the Hurricane doesn't hit here.

:muscle: Fixed my coolant leak at my head gasket today with the copper spray on the gasket, fired it up, adjusted the clutch and took it for a spin. Clutch seems to be absolutely perfect now!! I guess the spring swap and roughing up that disc did the trick. Can't seem to keep the front end n the ground now.:D

If it was my engine, I would only go with Honda steel plates and fibers with CR500 Heavy Duty springs.

Our one step up would be the old Honda HR Team trick as Neil has posted on other threads using a 400EX steel plate sandwiched between the rest of the clutch assembly (replace one of the 250r steel plates with a 400ex steel plate) + oil drain plug aluminum washers behind every spring to increased spring force.

Can’t beat Honda parts for reliability & performance, however; the cost is high…
