well i think i got a good deal. found this on craigslist last week. I offered $1500 it is an '86 with works shocks, new motor with stock cylinder with mild port and polish, pro-x piston, new crank, FMF gold series pipe, nerf bars, 6 pack rack, RPM front bumper, moose bars, full set of paddles, full set of razer tires, 2 extra rear razers, twist throttle and thumb throttle.

The bad: cracked frame on left side where lower sub frame connects to main frame. and shotty welding on lower motor mounts, and a blown rear master cylinder. needs rejetted (seems a bit fat thruogh out and wont idle so probably needs a smaller pilot jet.

but I own a metal fabrication shop so the frame repairs are nothing but scrap metal and time. and rear master cylinder is ~$20 for a rebuild kit.

will put thumb throttle, rejet, and weld frame by this weekend so I can giver a go before making our first dune trip on holloween.

i have plans for it but nothing big for now.

first and fore most fix the frame, and rear brakes. then rejet carb.

then future build plans... powdercoat frame White, duncan front bumper custom grab bar, new plastics eventually, ESR TRX9 pipe OR LRD pipe, blaack seat cover, carbon hood and fuel tank cover, cool head, and a/s 38mm carb. extended axle, custom extended swing arm and custom A-arms. ProPeg nerfs, anodized red billet gas cap, red hubs, red tag handle bars, black swing arm and a-arms, billet thumb throttle, and MAYBE graphics.

and after boring it a few times i will go 330cc maybe?

also are these pegs the stock foot pegs? (look at pic in first post)

Id say that was a pretty good deal, what part of the country are you in and which dunes?

Im in Tucson, AZ. we will be going to Butter Cup outside of Yuma, AZ. Will get a case saver ASAP. Thanx for the comments. The little guy is my 4 month old son. We already got him an LT80 before he was born, we traded 3 hours of work for it (=~$200!)
And we are working on getting my Wife a Rhino. few buddies who always go to the lake with us convinced us to go to the dunes with them this haloween.

I use to ride motocross, had a blaster that was worked. But we sold it for a couplpe of jetskis and kinda got away from dirt. but now that we have a little boy i dont want him to grow up with out motorcycles like i did. So here we are back to quads as well

Add chain guides for the frame and swing arm.

welded up the frame today, cleaned air filter, and gave her a quick wipe down. took a look at the jetting and installed the thumb throttle. got it to idle by adjusting the throttle cable tensioner but will still jet it properly.

mods are FMF gold series, k&n filter with no lid, mild port, stock head.

my jets were as follows:
main 149
pilot 48
needle is 4th groove from bottom
air screw 1/4 turn

Im thinking i am running way lean on the main. runs like a dog when cold and cleans up a bit when warm but im too affraid to run it hard till i get jets. (tomorrow)

gonna get a 160 main and i dont know wether to go up or down on the pilot. also it has a sh*& autolite plug in it. Run needle on center clip, and adjust air screw out a bit at a time. low end is pretty dead so i think i will go up with the pilot jet to a 50 or so.

rejetted carb yesterday ended up with a 160 main needle in middle, and kept the 48 pilot for now as they didnt have the right type of pilot for me. I also put in a BP8ES plug and found that the silver plug cap from the crappy autolite worked its way loose and stuck in the plug wire and wouldnt allow for full contact. put her back together and gave her a quick rip down the alley and DAMN! came out of a wash and it hit the pipe hard and ripped the handle bars out of my left hand! this thing lifts the front with out trying!

I never used the stock carb, but i would think you are fine on the 48 pilot.
