i am looking at buying a new yfzx 450 r for my son to race MX with. He has been riding a Honda 300 ex this year . Has anyone raced these quads in stock form and if so how have they done. the plans are to change tires, add a sterring stablilizer, nerf bars and exhaust. Once he gets somes seat time then we will go from there.

I raced my YFZR in stock form in the Women's A class in WORCS when I first bought it. No seat time, stock tires, stock pipe....only thing I did was add a stabillizer. I podiumed that day.......

These are great machines in stock form - very competitive......most people are just so used to immediately buying upgrades for their quads, that they don't give it a shot in stock form.

My current 2010 YFZR only has tires, exhaust, programmer, stabillizer and nerfs......and that's how it's going to stay.

Your son will LOVE the R. Set the suspension on the SOFTEST settings all around at first, and see how he likes it......this is how I have it, and the suspension feels better than both aftermarket suspension setups I have had on my old YFZ450.

Good luck!

Why would you want the YFZX if you're gonna do Motorcross. Kinda working against yourself.

I would do the basic mods like pipe and programmer and be pretty competative depending upon his level of competition. Also idk if it was typo or not, but if your racing mx you would want to get the yfzr.

And a gripper seatcover....those stock ones are the slickest thing since goose poo.
