I'm a new 400 owner and have been doing alot of searching on this site, i found alot of useful articles and my favorite one is the krud kutter, that stuff works awesome. I decided to retire from motocross due to injuries so picked up this clean 2001 honda 400ex. I was told it's a 416 with a stage 2 cam, but i have my doubts, i does not feel fast but i can only compare it to other quads i have owned in the past, 250r, raptor 686, etc..I have full intentions of setting this quad up for mx as i will probably play around on the track some. I have been looking at 2+ a-arms and i'm shocked about the price, and of course i will be picking up some honda 450r shocks. Is it really necassary to go wider with this quad to make it handle decent on a track? Back to the motor, Is the stock bore 85mm or 87mm? Do oversize bores go in .040 increments? It has stock plastics, i plan on going with maier race plastics and adding a carbon fiber hood, only problem is i can't find any hoods, quad tech has there hoods listed as discontinued.. Any suggestions? Thanks

Very nice! Try Ebay for the hood the stock bore is 85mm and the stroke is 70mm not sure what the bore increments are I know I have seen .40 over and .80 over kits. As far as A-arms if your looking to save a few bucks go with the full flight the kit is really cheep and they are adjustable.

when you go for a hood, get a 250r hood, i wouldnt go to the 450 hoods, its alot more work to get it to fit up.

Thanks for the tips! I have heard from a few people now to go with the 250r hoods.
