I've had both Hinson and PE, both were solid and lasted years

oh, sure enough! hmm well I guess if the PE work good, who cares about Wiseco as they are nearly as much as Hinson...

I have had hinson baskets and they only lasted a little longer than stock. I would go with barnett. They put a stainless steel inserts over the fingers and these will not wear out like the aluminum only ones will. Plus even under the rare chance they do wear out the stainless steel inserts can be replaced.

the thing that always worries me about getting say a hinson, or a barnett, or any clutch basekt new. IS there a gear on it??? I never see the big gear on the back. how hard is it to install one?

you need to remove the gear from the stock basket and the rubber dampeners, a grinder or drill press solves this easily. If the rubber dampeners need to replaced, hinson sells replacement ones, crf450r dampeners are nearly exact to 250r ones.

The hinson comes with the screws to attach the gear. The barnett comes with screws but use a nut on the far side. The hison basket is threaded and you want to clean it when you get it and use red locktite on the threads.

The hinson does wear just like stock. I would like to try the barnett on my next build.

If all else fails, read the directions! LOL!

I thought a manufacture was producing baskets with steel inserts to prevent wear, is this the case? Does anyone know if they work, or are they just too heavy with the steel inserts?

i'm all about lighter rotating mass and considering the amount of clutching i do and the loads applied to the works. therefore i opt to stay wiith the P/E or equivelant. i love the concept of the lil metal inserts and all but untill someone can show me first hand any weight differences im stayin' with what i know.

Agreed 86 Quad R; the added rotational mass verses the less wear “gained” is the question with a steel inserted basket…

If you look at the pics the stainless steel inserts do not look to be of significant mass (their real thin and small). I have been using the slingshot lockout for 2 years now. It is heavier than stock but works much better. Do you guys think you loose some power using the stainless steel inserts?

One note if you use the Barrnet clutch basket you must reuse the plate that keeps the rubber pieces in place. Do not grind through it when removing the rivets to get the gear off your old basket.
