I was wondering on the details of shock setup. I've heard people say that a setup for 180lbs and stock A-arms will be like 160lbs and +2 A-arms. While I figure this may be generally true (it makes sense) is it EXACLTY true?

What would be the difference between a 180lbs stock A-arm setup and a 160lbs +2 A-arm setup?

do you plan on getting new shocks?? if so, just call the company that you are buying shocks from and ask them;)

the differance would be that the shocks are for a 180 person on a stock set up and for a 160lb person on a +2 set up.

with a longer a-arm there is more levergae on the pivot/shock which makes the shock EASIER to compress so in a sense for a smaller rider.

when you buy shocks they will valve them for your weight and size.

if you have stock arms or +1,2,3 they are set up accordingly.

if you are 150 and shocks are for 160 your not gonna notice a diff

and vice versa

I'm just wondering about the specifics. Theoretically, you can compensate for a soft spring to some degree by adjusting the compression damping, but that doesn't make it magically "correct"

Can someone give me specifics? Is the spring constant the same? How about the valving? At what point would I notice a difference? Would it be OK off big jumps, but a little stiff in the whoop section? Or would it be great in the whoops, but a little soft on the big jumps?
