give it a search. many topics on it. hp4, rotella, amsoil, pennzoil, valvoline. pretty much any oil that can be used in a wet clutch will work and has been used by somebody. I use valvoline 10w40 myself. lol steve

I've been using castrol 20w-50. I use the heavier in the summer because of the heat. Its also cheaper than honda's oil

+1 for Rotella 15W-40. Cheap and holds up very well. Main thing is to change whatever you use often. Like Steve said, do a search. The topic has been covered 100 times so you'll find more info and opinions that you'll know what to do with.

Could be, but the 15w50 oil contains less viscosity index improvers and is more shear stable than the 10w40 oil. In other words, the 10w40 will shear out of grade and loose its viscosity faster. But as long as you change the oil often, before the oil has a chance to break down, you should be good with whatever.

I just put a new cam in, so right now i'm running Shell Rotella T 15w40 conventional. After that, i'm making the switch to some of the best MC/ATV oil you can run. Maxima Maxum 4 Extra 15w50. It's a group V Ester-based full synthetic and is some seriously heavy duty stuff. Does wonders for hot running 4 strokes, and the esters keep the engine extremely clean.

Im using mobil 1 15w-50, no issues and I like it alot. It might be a tad thick in the colder months but I generally dont ride unless its 40F outside.

GN4... the way i see it, is that whatever it comes with stock, is obviously what should be run in the engine. If you have a stock motor. I would move to a different oil if you have much engine work done.

You do realize its nothing more but honda labeled, overpriced, regular old 10w-40 oil right?

I always used GN4 10-40, then after my clutch explosion I bought 2 gallons of Rotella T 15-40 to flush out my motor, actually thinkin I might stick with the Rotella for now, and for half the price it seems to hold up well

Do local auto stores carry Rotella? Like Autozone, Walmart etc?

pretty sure walmart has rotella, just make sure you get the color contrainer. Which i believe is the blue jug but don't quote me

GN4 isn't bad oil, but Rotella T 15w40 is light years ahead of it IMO. You'd be a sucker to pay more for the Honda oil unless you can get some type of discount on it :p

Walmart has all three grades of Rotella now. Depends if you want to run a full synthetic or not. The blue container is the full synthetic 5w40 which is excellent oil. It used to be really cheap but they jacked the price on it....it's still pretty cheap at around 5-6 bucks a quart though.

The white container is the 15w40 conventional oil. It's around 3-4 bucks a quart I believe. Also good stuff, just doesn't hold up as long as the synthetic version.

Both versions are not JASO MA certified, but meet those requirements, and can be used in motorcycle wet clutches without issue.

In my case I've never had a slipping issue at all with Rotella. My clutch is the original OEM from 2002 and I've been racing it HARD in XC all year long. I start out in 2nd gear up hills all the time and lug it out hard in 2nd through the woods. Also when I change it after a 2 hour race or every 10 hours normal riding it still looks very very clean. I've been pleased with the performance and price and will continue to use Rotella. I wouldn't say it's "junk" or "crappy oil" rather it didn't work for your quad. There are numerous people that swear by it, me included, and it's too bad it didn't work for you.

If your clutch was already bathed in other oil, sometimes switching oil isnt a good idea.
