36 tooth

I just ordered a 36 tooth rear sprocket for my 400 , I still have the stock 14 tooth up front. what set up do you all h ave on your 400 and what's top speed on it .. if you do have a 36 tooth do you notice any drop in the lower gears ?

stock on a 400ex is a 15

i have 16/37 gearing. i love it . 14 is just way too short

I run a 15/36 for MX racing and a 14/38 or 15/38 for XC....you'll probably have to take a few links outa your chain to run a 14/36 setup...

I can say the 15/36 setup with 18in rear tires is friggen awesome..don't know about it for XC racin,.,.:confused:

sorry i do have the 15 tooth up front must have been a typo.. but i want to know top speed increase going from 38 to a 36 ?

go to bluetraxx they have a calculator that will tell you your speeds just go to home page and to calculators...........i hate to reccomend anyone going to bluetraxx but just this once

i "think" every front tooth increase is 4 mph. so a 36 rear would be about 2/3 of that . or approx. 2.76 mph gain .

a 16/36 would be 6.7 approx mph gain. i know a 16/38 will run 77 mph confirmed at 1/8 paved track with stock ohtsu's . so a 16/36 setup will run about 79-80 mph . with stock rev limiter

I am racing mx, but I also do some trail riding. Right now I have a 14/38 setup. Should I keep this setup or what would be a better one. 16/38, 15/36......?Plus should I get a case saver also?

what does everybody think about 16/35 gearing ? am i the only person who likes this set up ?

i think alot of it has to do with rider weight and engine mods.my motor was stock and im a pretty big guy, for mx i was running 14/36 and it worked best for me, and i tried a bunch of differnt combo's.i was gonna run a 14/38or39 for xc racing cause that gives you more low end pull.

from what ive heard using a 16 up front is supposed to work very well, built motors, not astock.

I have ran a 15-36 on my 400 its ok just a little more top end speed, If you want more top end just get a 16 tooth front sprocket and the stock 38 rear. This will give you more top end, I run this set up and I didnt loose any bottom end, I have also tried running 16-36 this was too high the stock 400 motor couldnt pull it all the way in 5th gear (couldnt hit the rev limiter)

Yeah Rico that was an easy decision, especially when you put it that way. See I way around 150lbs and I was just wanting to get a little bit more from my bike throughout the gears. So should I just stick with the 14/38 for mx?

stock gearing or a 14/36 with 18 inch tires is great for mx'ing. just my opinion.

Yes redrider that is what I am thinking of doing. I was just thinking of trying a diff. setup, but I may stick with this one.

i agree, i dont think u need 14/38 that will be too much bottom end pull for your weight, you'll be slowin yourself down on the straights.
