1st gear issue

During my last couple rides I noticed an issue shifting into first. This only seems to happen after I shut the motor off in any gear besides neutral or first. When I restart the motor I often cannot select first unless I apply pressure to the shifter and let the clutch out slightly, at which time transmission seems take up some slack and drops into first. I have no problems with shifting to first while riding, only when I've come to a stop and shut the motor off. There was a previous post about problems shifting to first but I'm not sure this is the same issue.

Any ideas? Tranny? Clutch?

Mine has always done the same thing every once and a while and is just the nature of the beast in my opinion. Just rock the machine forward and back while sitting on it and it will downshift. Or if the clutch thing works for you, go with that.
