We are looking to race the Nationals next year. This is what we have now 2009 DRR 50 with Elka shocks 21carb. We will be racing in the 50 Limited class. thanks

Should we sell it and buy a 2011?

Pipe, head, clutch and what ever else may need?

Do people really carry spare motors with them to events?

go to drrnation.com
if you can do those upgrades
use stage 6 parts
if you use the s6 clutch make sure to get the cnc bell for ease of adjustment
id use a pvl ignition for resale value
and the word is that a drr90 stock pipe does wonders for the 50!
you got my number and were close be glad to get together and test and tune at a track and let the boys play!:D
oh and your model is just fine no need to buy a new one, buy yourself one and have him school you on the track!

I forget the rules for the limited class BUT with the parts your showing pics of, you will not be able to race in the stock beginner class which requires most stuff to be as the quad came form the factory. I believe Gary - G-force, Marc - Hotquads is just a couple of the ppl you should contact to get your rider to the front.
Also, do yourself a favor and get that extra engine along with other parts because after you spend $1000 to be at that one National race the last thing you wanna do is not make a moto/race because of a part failure. JMO

Sell the 09 you have or keep as a practice quad if money isnt to tight and by a 2011 or a used 2010. You can't use the 90 pipe on the 09 and still be leagal. The 2010/11 are faster anyway. If the elkas are standard travel keep them you can use them on the new quad. Out of all the parts you posted pics of the clutch is the only thing you can use in the 50 limited class. If you want one of those polini clutches ive got 1 ill sell ya $40, clutch only no bell.

best bet, check the rules before you build. save you a lot of time, money and headaches. Best bet, work with a bike shop that knows the series and the rules and can guide you on setup. if you don't have that, post questions here.

below are the 50 limited rules for the nats. things like ignition (PVL), different pipe, different carbs, etc are a no-no. if you have all that go fast stuff already, you might think about running the 50CVT class (mod'd 50 CVTs), where the rules are basically just be 50cc, all else goes.

50 stk rules:
6. 50cc Limited: Production models. The following may be changed: shocks (limited to maximum 4" shock travel), tires, wheels (must not change stock width) internal portions of the motor, spark arrestor may be removed (must still meet 99db), sprockets, gearing, clutch, twist throttle, handlebars, grips, handle bar pads, front bumper, rear grab bar, air filter and jetting. Air box lid may be removed or modified. Fenders may be trimmed. Manufacturer installed parental speed limiting devices may be removed. Nerf bars or suitable floorboards and working tether cords are required. No other modifications are allowed, INCLUDING, carburetors, oil injection, air box, gas tank, exhaust systems, wheel base, width, rear axle, A-arm, steering dampener, and suspension (with the exception of shocks). However, if a violation is deemed by the referee to be cosmetic in nature, with no performance advantage or willful misconduct involved, a warning or fine may be issued in lieu of disqualification.

Later in the year/next year---A 2011 DRX50R will have an aluminum cylinder and be AMA approved.

Cylinders are here in the U.S., but not on the units yet or approved by the AMA yet (but will be before the next national season)

This should allow any 2011 to be built to that spec if it is purchased before then.

New shocks too by then as well :) We are testing the spring settings now...Comp and Rebound Adjustable...nice features...

Availability==Not now or even next week, but by March I think you will find a new AMA approved DRX50R.

No pricing update or eta schedules are available at this point.

Find a dealer and let them guide you through the path of the 50cc world.

If you don't then you may end up wasting money and time and get really frustrated

Hetrick and G Force are paid advertisers here, so I would say you have at least 2 well known shops to work with on this board alone.

Good Luck

Good info Gary,
I like that DRR has seen the need for better shocks, I know of several guy's here that are running a stock appearing class that eat those stock shocks like candy and when they fail it beats their kid up on the rough stuff and tears up swingarms, axles, ect and kind of holds back on their riders confidence to hit the rough stuff faster.
Guess I better sell my old stockers that are in the "parts dungeon" before they become antiques or boat anchors:rolleyes:
