has anyone here ever welded aluminum with a mig welder? I need to weld my cylinder

Typically you can only weld thin aluminum with a MIG, Best thing to do is to find someone skilled with a TIG. Its the optimum choice for work like this and more controlled and better penetration if needed...

Just my thoughts

I have not used MIG to weld aluminum. I use TIG because of all the reasons ARC stated. And the weld itself from TIG just all around looks better.

You can set up a MIG to weld aluminum. You need a bottle with 100% Argon, and the gun/spool setup for aluminum. We just did this for welding alum body panels on a long travel buggy.
