gas leak

my 2002 400ex leaks gas out of the long skinny black hose that connects to the bottom of carb.when i put the gas switch on the off position it stops. i havent tried it on the reserve yet.there is a short hose off bottom of carb and a long one. long one leaks. :eek2:

thats the overflow hose. try tapping the side of the carb with the handle of a screwdriver and see if that helps. if that doesn't, take the float bowl off the bottom of the carb, and then take the float and the needle out. you'll see the hole where the rubber part of the needle makes contact with. this is where your gas comes into the carb. get a can of carb cleaner and spray out that hole really well. there is probably junk in there that is preventing the needle from making a good seal when the float is up, thus letting more gas into the carb than the engine needs.
