I have a CFM oil tank, and their aluminum airbox

my quad is still being built, but the welds and materials appear to be top notch

the airbox is cool because you can put your battery and voltage regulator in it to keep them out of the elements

What are the pros and cons to an oversized oil cooler besides holding more oil and helping to cool better? I may need a new cooler for my ex and the cfm tank looks nice.

i don't really think there a con... i can really only think of pros... more oil, stays cooler, could give a few more precious moments of time, if you were to rip off an oil line or cracked a case, to shut down your quad...i guess a con would be if the unit you picked was built poorly.

i think it will help with cooling quite a bit, but unfortunately i had to buy a new one because i have a piece of angle iron fell over and punched a hole in my tank, sure i could have welded it together or got a stock replacement for cheap off the bay, but why not upgrade when you need one right off the bat?

i got the cfm tank off ebay, found one of the make offer auctions and got one for 75 plus shipping. i like it alot the only complaint i have is it is really close the the frame on the drivers side of the bike but the craftsmanship looks A++

I have the CFM tank on my 426 and it keeps it pretty cool, I was riding with a couple of stock 400's and when we stopped theirs were ticking from the heat and mine was quiet. $99 shipped off ebay great deal.

well i have a few rides on this tank. i can't tell a difference if is cooler or not, rode a real hard technical trail, lots of slower speeds and clutching. still seamed as hot as it was before.
it seams to be built ok, nice looking welds on the thing.

lastly, the thing was a bear for me to install, it was a pain. header and oil cooler had to come off, then i ended up pulling off the whole pipe and front fenders(just for working ease), what a pain. then the oil lines... anyway once it went it went like butter, it was kind of odd, but i think i was just having one of those nights... it could have just been me. beer was opened early that night
:D

The advantage to the larger tank is having more volume of oil witch will take longer to circulate through the system, thus leaving it in the tank longer witch will allow it to cool slightly more then a smaller tank. Plus being made of aluminum and not being painted it should transfer more heat to the air then a steel and painted tank. And having more oil it will take longer for it to break down and stop working like it should.
I think the reason it feels the same is the heat being drown from the oil tank is radiating away from the tank and that’s where you feel the heat coming from.

Has anyone combined these oversized tanks with a oil cap temperature guage?

I'd love to do both for some peice of mind, so I was curious is anyone has results.
