Getting a race number?

Hey guys, i am building my new race bike for the 2011 season, and i am wondering how to get a number, so i can get my graphics made? Do i get one when i buy my AMA Membership? or ATVA?

and which should i get? an AMA or ATVA membership?

YOU CAN BASICALLY PICK WHATEVER YOU WANT, BUT I JUST USED THE LAST 2 NUMBERS OF MY AMA NUMBER.

So when you get your AMA Membership they give you a number?

and how do you know your number isn't taken?

at all local mx or national mx races, if you have the same number as someone one of the riders has to slash their number (put a piece of electrical tape diagonally accross it). its not a big deal. my advice is dont pick a pro riders number bc they tend to be more common

My numbers the one I had back in Middle School when I was playing soccer. The number just stuck with me since then. You can pick your own number in the AMA, aslong as someone in your class doesn't have it.
